Occupational therapy, as the name implies, uses occupation to promote and
maintain health, and to prevent or remediate dysfunction as a result of disease,
injury, ageing, social disadvantage or impairments resulting in disability.
Occupation refers to any activity or task necessary to self care (e.g. eating,
dressing), productivity (e.g. school, work, homemaking), or leisure pursuits
(e.g. play, recreation activities). Occupation is viewed as essential to health.
