EXPLANATORY NOTE ON THE RICE PRICES SHOWN IN THIS PUBLICATION
INTRODUCTION
Article 20 of Regulation No 16/64/EEC on the progressive establishment of the common organization of the
market in rice (Official Journal No 34, 27 February 1964) provided for a progressive approximation of
threshold prices and target prices during the transitional period so that a single threshold price and a
single target price might be attained by the end of that period,
This single market for rice was introduced by Regulation No 359/67/EEC of 25 July 1967 on the common organization
of the market in rice (Official Journal No 174, 31 July 1967). Its system has been in force since
1 September 1967. On 2 June 1976 this Regulation was modified by (EEC) No 1418/76 (OJ No L 166, 25.6.1976).
A. Types of prices
Under Articles 3, 4, 14 and 15 of Regulation (EEC) No 1418/76, a target price, intervention price and
threshold prices are fixed for the Community each year.
Intervention prices
Before 1 August of each year, intervention price for round-grairied paddy rice is fixed for the
marketing year which starts the following year.
Target price
Before 1 August of each year, a target price for round-grained husked, rice is fixed for the Community
for the marketing year beginning during the following calendar year.
Threshold prices
Before 1 August each year the following prices are fixed for the following market year :
- a threshold price for round-grained husked rice and a threshold price for long-grained husked rice,
- a threshold price for round-grained milled rice and a threshold price for long-grained milled rice,
- a threshold price for broken rice.
B. Standard quality
The target price, intervention prices and threshold prices referred to in Section A. are fixed for
standard qualities (Regulation (EEC) No 1423/76 of 21 June 1976 OJ L 166, 25. 6.1976),
c. Places to which fixed prices relate
Intervention price for round-grained paddy rice is fixed for Vercelli (Italy) at the wholesale stage,
goods in bulk, delivered to warehouse, not unloaded.
The target price for round-grained husked rice is fixed for Duisburg at the wholesale stage, goods in
bulk, delivered to warehouse, not unloaded.
Threshold prices for husked rice, milled rice and broken rice, are calculated for Rotterdam (goods
unloaded in bulk).
A. For France the prices relate to Bouches-du-Rhone and for Italy to Milan and Vercelli.
