The Ensemble vocal Aedes aims to perform the major works as<br />

well as lesser-known pieces from the choral repertoire of the past<br />

five c<strong>en</strong>turies, including new works by contemporary composers.<br />

Composed of betwe<strong>en</strong> sixte<strong>en</strong> and thirty-two professional<br />

singers (dep<strong>en</strong>ding on the programme performed), Aedes has<br />

already included many a cappella cycles in its repertoire. In<br />

parallel, it works regularly with various well-known soloists and<br />

<strong>en</strong>sembles, such as Le Cercle de l’Harmonie and Les Musici<strong>en</strong>s du<br />

Louvre Gr<strong>en</strong>oble.<br />

The first volume of Ludus verbalis was awarded a Diapason<br />

‘Discovery’ Award (‘Découverte’) and a German record critics’<br />

award.<br />

The <strong>en</strong>semble is in resid<strong>en</strong>ce at the Fondation Singer-Polignac,<br />

the Théâtre Impérial of Compiègne and the Theatre of Auxerre. It<br />

was the winner in 2009 of the Liliane Bett<strong>en</strong>court Prize for choral<br />

singing, awarded by the Académie des Beaux-Arts.<br />

The choral and orchestral conductor Mathieu Romano<br />

studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) and graduated in<br />

orchestra conducting, flute and chamber music. He founded<br />

the Ensemble vocal Aedes in 2005.
