CONVENTION 1 BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF AUSTRIA<br />

AND THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY ON<br />

SOCIAL SECURITY<br />

The Federal President of the Republic of Austria and<br />

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany,<br />

Desiring to foster relations between the two States in the matter of<br />

social security and to bring them into line with current legislation,<br />

Have agreed to conclude a Convention, to replace the Convention of<br />

21 April 1951, and for this purpose have appointed as their plenipotentiaries:<br />

The Federal President of the Republic of Austria :<br />

Dr. Hans Reichmann, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary;<br />

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany:<br />

Dr. Kurt Jantz, Ministerialdirektor.<br />

The plenipotentiaries, having exchanged their full powers, found in good<br />

and due form, have agreed as follows :<br />

PART I<br />

GENERAL PROVISIONS<br />

Article 1<br />

For the purposes of this Conventions<br />

1. "Territory" means, in relation to the Republic of Austria, the federal<br />

territory of that State and,<br />

in relation to the Federal Republic of Germany, the area in which the Basic<br />

Law for the Federal Republic of Germany is in force :<br />

I Came into force on 1 November 1969, the first day of the second month following the<br />

month in which the instruments of ratification were exchanged (26 September 1969), in accordance<br />

with article 51 (2).<br />
