FASHION
TIPS FOR
SHORT
WOMEN
Fashion photography is a genre of photography
devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items.
Over time, fashion photography has developed its own
aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are
enhanced by the presence of exotic locations or
accessories.
EMMANUEL OYELEKE
:Lengthen the line of your body with
monochromatic colors.
If you wear a different color on top as opposed to
the bottom, you tend to cut your body in half
visually which makes you appear shorter. This is
particularly true if one color is light and the other
dark. Instead try wearing a monochromatic outfit
in a single shade of shirt and pants or shirt and
skirt. This creates a long, lean line that adds the
illusion of height to your figure.
“What you wear is how
you present yourself to
the world, especially
today, when human
contacts are so quick.
Fashion is instant
language.”
— Miuccia Prada
Wear dark colors
Dark colors, particularly if monochromatic,
add the illusion of height. A black top and
slim black pants with carefully chosen
accessories and low to high heels in black
gives a long, lean sophisticated line that's
perfect for a variety of occasions. Dark colors
also make you look slimmer which is an added
bonus.
Wear higher waisted pants and skirts
for maximum height.
High waisted pants can give the illusion of
height and greater leg length. Avoid
hipsters if you're shorter in stature.
Choose your shoe wisely.
You don't have to wear stilettos to try to
seem taller. A good comfortable shoe with
a moderate heel will do.

Interview...
Lovers of Ghanaian and Nollywood
movies need no introduction to Victoria
Vicky: Definitely Acting
Lamode: So would you say your mother is
a big influence in your career?
Vicky: I wouldn’t say she is an
influence, but she’s been absolutely
supportive
Lamode: What inspires you?
Vicky: My exciting and fun
personality. Plus I draw a lot of
inspiration from good movies
Lamode: Do you pick and choose the
roles you play?
Vicky: No I don’t. I only choose
PRIN
Like we all know prints are lovable and
versatile. Designers from all over the
world featured prints in their various S/S
2012 and 2013 collections. This led to a
plethora of prints on the runway ranging
from shift dress, button- up blouse, and
tailored trousers of neat geometrics,
retro- paisley and bloom. We have
decided to bring this to your notice
because we feel it is going to play an
important factor when it comes to
choosing a particular trend you will love
to rock this season. Also keep in mind
that pushing fashion to the limit is not
for everyone, but if you eagerly embrace
bright colors, big floral and bold
graphics, then these guaranteed attention
getters are for you. Prints can be rocked
in different ways and never be scared to
mismatch patterns.
Laces are simple, expressive and
timeless.
SHEER FEVER
The sheer trend has been given a
massive attention from the runway to
street styles and one can see a good
dose of a twist of sexy to it by
showing the skin without stress. A
fashionable person can hardly go
wrong with it. Designers like Calvin
Klein and Gucci together with some
spectacular designers have been able
to do justice to this trend on the
runway.
FASHION
Over the years people have worn
apparels made of leather and this trend
never fades out of fashion. Black and
brown are the most dominant colors
and a lot of designers have expressed
their creativity with this fabric. I advise
you try it on this season, ladies try a
leather dress, and men try a leather
jacket.

images that come to mind are beautiful
models with beautiful bodies, beautiful
clothes made of flowing and colorful
materials, talented and creative designers,
etc. But how can a model maintain a
beautiful body without a healthy diet and
regular exercise? How can a designer
think and create beautiful designs
without serene atmosphere? How do we
maintain good physical if our cities do
not have enough trees, parks and public
gardens to regenerate oxygen? Our
modest contribution to the search of
answers to some of the questions above
led us to theme the NFW 2012 edition
GOING GREEN 2.
This year showcased a going green
collection of all the participating
designers to exhibit there ecofriendly
outfits made from recycled materials,
organic or natural fabric on the same
runway. Lamode magazine considers that
aspect of the entire Fashion week as
epical and we encourage African
designers to develop ecofriendly fashion
to preserve our enviroment.
Indeed, the 2012 edition of the Nigerian
Fashion week brought together
professionals from various backgrounds
particularly designers in diaspora. This
influx of so many cultures ultimately
gave the audience, models, designers,
an overwhelming experience.
Although they were a few technical set
These types of shoes cover your heels and toes. So, pumps and
Classic shoes assort to skirts, dresses, suits and elegant trousers.
These kinds of shoes must be worn when it comes to a casual
Clogs
Clogs suit casual outfits. Avoid wearing them with body-stockings
or with a business outfit.
Heels sandals
They can be worn to dresses and elegant trousers during the day.
Those sandals which have straps at the ankles make the shank
seem thicker. Be careful! If you have sleazy feet avoid wearing
stiletto heels shoes because they will make your feet look thinner.
Casual sandals
Some of the most in fashion sandals are the gladiator type sandals,
which have low sole. Avoid wearing these kinds of sandals with
MOTHERS IN LAW
VS DAUGHTERS IN LAW S
This has always been a famous topic
among young women (wedded or not), a
bone of contention, a heart troubler and
an issue that can displace a young
woman from the heart of her husband
if not carefully handled and that which
can send a mother-in-law to her early
grave. It’s so unfortunate that both
parties have mixed feelings when they
are about to see each other for the very
first time (cold feet, heart pumping fast,
over conscious and unnecessarily
sensitive to words). The question is why
all these feelings? It is simple: the angel
brought to your home introduced as a
wife to be smiling and laughing with you
could be a demon after marriage (for the
mothers-in-law). Some mothers-in-law
have an unintended and uncontrollable
feeling of rejection and resentment
towards their daughters-in-law. This ould
be caused by one of the following three
reasons:
1. The eldest son is a source of
compassion and love which mothers
benefit from, especially at old age;
therefore, they would not have good
feelings towards those whom they think
would deprive them from such a source.
2. The mother, who has spent her
entire life raising and caring for her
children, finds it difficult to accept that
the daughter-in-law, who has never
shouldered such responsibilities, is able
to properly care for her son.
3. The mother-in-law could have
different values, principles or even
ideologies from the daughter-in-law. She
believes that she can never be wrong
(for the elites).
DAUGHTERS IN V
Therefore it is very important to strike a
balance or bring both of them on the
same platform. Simply put there are
some family strives that can be avoided
if the game is well played. Basically,
mothers-in-law are to be seen as our
mothers. Honestly, we all do have
misunderstanding with our mothers but
that is not enough reason to disown our
mothers or be rude towards them.
Therefore it is important for us all to
know how to win over our mothers-inlaw
hearts.
Every woman should always remember
that one day you will become a motherin-law
and a golden rule that should
never be forgotten is ‘Never to start off
with a bad relationship’, for instance
reading meanings to gestures.

WAYS TO GET
ALONG WITH
YOUR MOTHER
IN LAW
1. Mother-in-law at times would like to
know your reaction to some sensitive
words or topics for instance: ‘Why are
you wearing another woman’s hair? I am
so certain that my son won’t like it and I
am sure you think it looks so gorgeous
cause of the cost.’ Instead of clamming
up or simmer in silence because you are
upset, simply laugh over it and continue
the conversation, you can say ‘Mummy, I
think It would look more gorgeous on
you let’s try it on you, next time you visit
your salon.’ This won’t cause any major
issue and no offence would be taken.
2. Commend and appreciate her good
deeds, points and acts. A lot of us have
problems with our mothers-in-law when
it comes to our kitchens. I understand
how that feels (like an intruder coming
to check our hands in our very own
office). It is one of the ways of making
them have access to us. Let them give
you a helping hand do not forget that
she has ‘experienced hands’ and if she
has access to you they can help you out
with your work load in the kitchen. Of
course, you know she has not taken over.
If your mother-in-law makes a dish for
you while you were away for some time,
instead of complaining about this
appreciate her and make her understand
how much you cherished it. If she cleans
up your kitchen while you are busy
cooking, thank her for being so helpful.
It is amazing how much gentler she’ll be
if she sees very so often that you value
her.
3. Ask her for her advice very often it
will only bring you closer to her. Is she
having issues with your cooking? Turn
the situation around and ask her politely,
‘mummy please teach me how to make
nice dishes like you’, trust her, she would
get so interested and amazed at your
request.
For example: Mummy, I will like to make
a very special meal for Yomi today. Is
there anything special you think I should
prepare?’ By that she feels so involved,
just the thought of her being
acknowledged and giving her a chance to
contribute will make her day but of
course you know you are still in control.
4. The next issue is visitation. How
often do you visit her? How often do
you take her grandchildren to see her?
How often do you buy gifts for her? We
are humans and we can also learn from
animals. If you give a dog bones
everyday definitely the dog will like you
and can even protect you with its life.
That is how to win anyone’s heart. Little
care goes a long way. Buying little things
like underwear, make-up set, nice hair
extensions, take her for body massage,
pedicure, and manicure, nice laces, lovely
shoes/ slippers, food stuffs, even fruits
can make huge difference
LAMODE FASHION
All these will make her feel young and
glad. It is one of the easiest ways to get
to her heart. Do you also say sweet
words to her? Do not think you are only
responsible for your husband and to him
only you owe sweet words, perhaps your
children. Your mother-in-law should be
psyched at all times, every woman wants
compliments. Every woman likes
someone singing their praises. Sweet
words like, ‘Mummy I’m so glad God
made you my mother-in-law’. ‘Mum you
look so sweet today in short you are my
inspiration’. ‘Mummy thank you for
giving birth to my husband’. ‘Mummy
you are the best mum in the world. You
are so sweet to me (even though she is a
MONSTER) God bless you’; ‘mummy I
love you so much’. And if she is fond of
turning up at your house unannounced,
it can be a sign of she probably feeling
excluded from your life or a sign of
loneliness which may want her to
interfere the more. So call her often and
pay her more visitations. Try to
understand that this may be
compounded when the mother-in-law is
a widow and her children mean
everything to her. Be merciful and kind
to her.
5. At times, when mothers-in-law are
nasty for instance when she run her
fingers through the quarter inch of dust
gathering on the windowsill, just say, ‘Oh
that Ma, I gather that to express my
feelings to Yomi, in fact he knows that
spot’. She would smile and let you be.
It’s a very polite way of telling her you
have some other important things to
think of.
6. Siblings are another big issue
mothers-in-law cannot stand if they are
ill-treated. No matter how nice you are
to your mother-in-law you must be far
nicer to the siblings or relatives. It is a
norm that in Africa we do not marry
husbands we marry the family after all
the family welcomed you after your
marriage and gave you moral support.
Therefore, it is a very sensitive matter
when it comes to your husband’s
siblings. If you get

LAMODE DATING & RELATIONSHIPS
Of course time heals all wounds but
sometimes we really can't keep waiting
for time, instead, we should take "the
bull by the horn". Heartbreak or what I
will like to call "The unwanted visitor",
has become rather more rampant than
necessary, especially in this computer
age where young ones do not know
exactly what it takes to keep a
relationship, rather, they break up at
every little misunderstanding.Heartbreak
either as a result of divorce or break-up
leaves one party or even both very
devastated. Some of the characteristics
associated with heartbreaks include:
Shock and Denial
Realisation and Pain
Anger, Blame & Frustration
Depression, loneliness and a sense
of hopelessness
Low self esteem
Trying to cope with heartbreak is very
difficult and painful but necessary,
especially if you intend to move on.
The below steps will help reduce the
pain and increase recovery:
1
Cry if you have to but only for a while
and then wipe your tears. That way, you
can let go of all your anger and pain.
2
Getting over a heartbreak all starts and
ends with the individual's decision to do
so. You must accept that the relationship
is over and move on with your life.
3
Get rid of all items and personal
belongings of your ex, by doing this, you
are constantly not reminded about
him/her.
4
Spend more time with your friends and
family, they would help you out of your
situation.
5
Go out and meet new people, belonging
to "The Open Market" is quite fun.
Always understand that the relationship
LAMODE REALITY
Please remember I didn’t have the resources or time
to conduct a national survey or research so these
findings and indeed this article is loosely factual and
more common sense and opinion based.
Ok so when I got this topic to write on for a
magazine article I thought how the hell will I know
why young women are choosing to become or
engage in bi and homo-sexual activities? I mean even
the subject of ‘sex’ and talking about it is frowned
upon in this part of the world (West Africa) how
much more the issue of homosexuality!
Indeed I thought this would be a challenge…until I
began my research…and by this I don’t mean
conducting tests and doing surveys but just having a
good old ‘chinwag’ (talk) with people around me and
beyond.
See what is interesting in my findings is that most
people I spoke with have had encounters and
experiences with homosexuality, although many of
them insist on not pursuing or actively engaging in
the actual act. Most of these (in fact almost 96%
percent of the) people I spoke with claim to have
first come to know about homosexuality in ‘boarding
school’. I have never been to boarding school in my
life but from these testimonials, attending an all boys
or female boarding and at an age where your sexual
curiosity is just starting to sprout played a huge part
in their experiences.
A lot of the stories I heard pretty much sounded the
same and yes its true most of these young women
and men are now heterosexual and have partners of
the opposite sex however the topic we are discussing
today is why a lot of our generation are choosing to
engage in homosexuality or becoming bi-sexual.
More specifically, why are women in our society
choosing to sleep with women and carry on the
pretence of a heterosexual relationship?
Well there is no right answer but in my opinion the
words GREED and CONFUSED comes to mind.
REALITY

I say GREED because most women (and people in
general) these days have embraced this new found
liberation and gender equality ‘hoohaa’ and are running
wild with it. In their heads the saying ‘what men can do,
women can do better’ means in EVERYTHING
including sex. I disagree and beg to differ. A lot of you
with ‘open minds’ will argue and say it’s a personal choice
whom one chooses to sleep with and that is true…to an
extent. I say this because if this was entirely true, we will
not look down on or find humans sleeping with animals
appalling and disagreeable.
I say CONFUSED because a lot of the women who are
choosing to either engage in homosexuality or bisexuality
(in this part of the world) are mostly bitter and don’t
know how to deal with their bad experiences with men or
in most cases process the hurt and anger they’ve
experienced.
I don’t disagree that this topic goes in deeper and further
but I am not a psychologist I am a writer and from recent
trends in society and listening to people talk, a lot of
these young women are generally just fed up of men
taking the piss and toiling with their hearts and generally
JUST curious and bored. A lot of these young women
have been sexually abused from childhood or have just
been sexually active from an early age so by the time
they’re in their 20s, they have experienced being with a
man and now are ready to try new things.
However, the confusion comes in when they think that
sleeping with another woman is the answer. I’m a woman
and I cannot stand women! I have very few female
friends because the ‘WAHALA DON PLENTY FOR
ME’ (too much drama for me)!
In my opinion, although many of us, if not all, have
encountered or experienced homosexuality, the
growing number of you young women choosing to
hide behind it by ways of safe guarding your heart and
feelings is rapidly growing and quite frankly it is sad
and pathetic.
LAMODE REALITY
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had my heart broken and
wondered why I even bother with men! And to tell you the truth, a
lot of women and people think I’m Gay or Bi-sexual, I don’t
mind, I just laugh and correct them.
In today’s society, there are many young; self sufficient, financially
independent and well to do women who basically DO NOT need
the security that man have been known to provide for women
anymore. For this reason, when we are hurt and disappointed, so
many of us wonder why we even bother putting ourselves through
the lies and the cheating!
Whiles this is understandable, I don’t see how sleeping with
another woman is the answer because they can hurt you too, they
are human.
I cannot judge anyone but I am entitled to my personal opinion.
This issue is becoming a problem in our society and as Africans
with upstanding morals, traditions and rich cultures, it is important
that we discuss it and deal with it instead of shying away from it
and leaving it to affect and infect our current and upcoming
generation who are the future.
And men…it would help if you treated us right so we will enjoy
womanhood in all its glory.
LAMODE FASHION
Dos &
Don't
Do make accessories your friend!
Knowing a few basic style tips about
dressing for the office, casual occasions
and evenings out goes a long way toward
lo oking great in your 30s. Still, there are
some dos and don'ts that each of us should
keep in mind. Let's start with the don'ts.
In our humble opinion, Omotola
Jalade is 30s fashion perfection in
this stunning yellow african print
patterned dress with just the right
accessories.
Evening looks, no matter what your age,
really depend on the event and the
company you'll be keeping. Dinner and
drinks with your college roommates
calls for an entirely different look than
say an evening of salsa dancing with
your hot new boyfriend.
And a night on the town is still the
perfect occasion to choose racier items,
such as animal prints or a sheer blouse
with just enough lace work to keep you
from being arrested. But be careful not
to overdo it. The head-to-toe vixen look
might be OK for a 26-year-old, but the
look can be less appealing on a 36-yearold.
For women in their 30s, it's really about
balancing sophistication with sexiness.
As the saying goes, sometimes less is
more. If the top you're wearing shows
•Don't buy clothes that do not fit.No matter
what diet of the week you're trying, do not buy
a size down in anticipation of losing those
stubborn extra pounds.
•Don't lo ok to the teenagers in your life for
fashion tips. Some women think that by
emulating high scho ol or college girls, they'll
automatically lo ok younger.
FASHION
off a little décolleté, skip the miniskirt
and go for a pair of wide-legged
trousers If you want to show a little leg,
make sure everything's covered up on
top. And don't worry, looking
sophisticated doesn't have to mean
looking old. If you're wearing a formal
gown, keep your lush locks down. Or
finish a sleek, sophisticated ensemble
with a fun, flirty ponytail. In other
words, try pairing something youthful
with your grown-up look.
When it comes to accessories for an
evening out, the only way to get it
wrong is to forget about them. Of
course, that doesn't mean you should
load yourself down with sparkles, but
one perfect piece -- a great pair of
earrings, a statement necklace or a funky
cuff -- can really complete your look.
And try to keep things in harmony.
Balance sturdy fabrics with bold
accessories, but keep it dainty for
anything whispery like silk or chiffon.
•Do expand your wardrobe beyond basic black
and comfy stand-bys. It can be tricky avoiding all
the fashion faux pas out there, but you also don't
want to get stuck in a rut.
•Do invest in well-made, properly fitted
undergarments. An ill-fitting bra or oversized pair of
granny panties can ruin an otherwise polished lo ok.
Finally, remember the best lo oks always seem
effortless, not overdone.

I caught up with African super model Ibinda and
got her to share with our readers the journey so
far to becoming one of West Africa's most
experience models. Sunny Oisamoje
I started modeling by accident when I moved to
Accra Ghana to acquire a degree in English. A friend
of mine adviced I go for an auditions by vilsco
textiles and I was selected. It was an intriguing
experience that triggered my passion for modeling. I
didnt get another modeling opportunity for many
months after my first experience because I was not
signed to an agency.
Nine months passed before I got another shot at the
LAMODE FASHION
runway, this time I was auditioned by a model
management company that trained me and got my
confidence in the right place. Before I started
modeling I had a tomboy approach and had never
worn high heel shoes. Modeling as career has
enhanced my personality and given an opportunity
to explore new places, meet new people and earn a
living.
I have modeled in fashion shows within and outside
Accra Ghana. showcased design clothing for
designers all over Africa and diaspora. I am grateful
for the opportunities modeling professionally has
given me and my advice to aspiring young models is
to stay focus and be passionate about everything

LAMODE FASHION
Ever had anyone tell you, “Wow, you look good in
this!” “You’re absolutely breathtaking” “O my!
God must have made you on a Sunday when He
wasn’t plagued with creating everything else!” I’m
sure you have; and boy doesn’t it feel good having
the efforts we take into looking good being
appreciated. But here’s my personal favorite,
“YOU make this dress look good!” (winks)
Heeeey! It’s not ‘cause I have a big ego, it’s just
because truly that is what it should be. Beyond the
makeup, the nice clothes, expensive designer
labels etc. we need to ask “How am I really?
Without these things, can I say I look and feel
good?” Yes clothes give us a perk when we’re
dressed to the nines (and tens, LOL). But the real
question is “when I look at me without them on,
how do I feel? Who am I naked in front of my
mirror?”Don’t get me wrong I am not talking
about the sculpted muscles of Hercules or the
voluptuousness of Marilyn Munroe (gimme a bit
of both though. On my man and on me! Hey! Just
saying, LOL); I’m referring to our state of being.
Do you look as good on the inside as you do on
the outside dressed up? Do you look for ways to
rejuvenate your inside out so it is not like painting
a beaten up car so it looks new again
FASHION
One thing we’ve got to know, guys and ladies,
is that like every machine, our bodies will wear
and tear and the only way to keep it going
longer is to maintain if from the inside out;
just like ensuring your engine is at its best, a
paint job at the expense of that will ‘knock’
the engine!
Rather than spend so much money on
makeup, accessories, new wardrobe every now
and again, how about spending that much on
skin care and proper diet? We’re not all blessed
with flawless skin, I for one hate to have to
wear as much make up as I do, but I’ve got to
due to a very sensitive acne prone skin.
However makeup is temporary measure. More
important for me is having a diet and regime
that promotes a healthier skin. It’s not magic!
It’s a continuum. It’s a lifestyle, with time as I
age I believe I’ll see the rewards of this
decision.
So I eat recklessly, I live sedentary, I get
married, have a kid or five (smiles); I get all
flabby, but thank God for body magic!
Naaaaaaaaaah! Hold on folks. I’m no advocate
of skinny! In fact as one from the health
background, I abhor it when the major message
preached

about obesity is lose weight! Some by genetic predisposition
will never be a Halle Berry no matter how much they work out.
Here’s the good news, and one steadily being promoted by
health professionals, you can be healthy at all sizes! An active
metabolism is more beneficial that starving to ‘skinnyhood’.
Meaning eat right! Keep fit! Get active! Exercise! Not ‘cause
you have an image of what sexy is, but because it keeps you
skin, hair and overall being healthy. Bonus, you will lose weight
without you even knowing! You can look forward to aging
gracefully and not be plagued by chronic ailments such as
TypeII diabetes, hypertension, strokes, cardiovascular diseases
and the likes.
A healthy lifestyle should never be as a result of a definition of
what beauty is, because truly we’re all beautiful, rather because
we want to look good and feel good inside out and enjoy these
bodies as long as we have it! So my people! Rock your style!
Make your statement! YOU make the outfit and makeup all
come together, ‘cause YOU genuinely look good, feel good
and YOU are fashionably healthy!
Mistake #6: Too much Lip Liner
A lip liner can define your lips and prevent colour from
feathering into any lines around the mouth--but choose one
very carefully.
If you line your lips too heavily, or with a color that's too
dark, they'll look tight and pursed. For the most natural
effect, your lip liner should match the color of your lips, not
the colour of your lipstick. Choose a creamy formula that
won't adhere to any dry patches, and use it to fill in your lips
entirely, so it wears evenly.
Mistake #7: Using Liner and Mascara on Your Lower
Lashes
Playing up your lower lashes can make your eyes look
droopy and draw attention to dark circles. Instead, curl your
upper lashes and wiggle a volumizing mascara into their
roots and slowly through the ends for the most uplifting
effect.
Mistake #8: Skipping Blush
A rosy flush on your cheeks brings instant life to your face.
And, if applied correctly, blush can offer a little lift. Smile,
find the fleshiest part of your cheek and apply color just
slightly above it. Blend the color out toward your temples in
circles, not a line, using a big fluffy brush. You want to avoid
a stripe of color that stretches along your cheekbones, which
can make you look drawn and hollow
Mistake #9: Applying Lipstick Straight from the Tube
The borders of the lips soften with age, and any extra
lipstick migrates easily. To avoid bleeding colour, use your
finger or a lip brush so that you don't deposit too much
pigment. Concentrate the lipstick in the center of your
mouth, and blend it out with a finger. Top it with a
moisturizing balm or light gloss.
Mistake #10: Choosing a Too-Dark Eyebrow Pencil
Your brow colour fades as you age, so the brow pencil that
you were using at 25 will look too stark against your
complexion at 50," Choose the one that's a shade or two
lighter than your natural brow colour. If your brows are
starting to get a little wiry, run a clear brow gel over them as
well, brushing them up and out toward your temples.

LAMODE REALITY
On too many occasions we let other people’s
verdict on our capacities cripple our dreams
and some of us who can possibly turn out to
be the most talented people that our generation
has ever known just give up on our dreams
because of other people’s opinions!
How can you let the opinions of other people shape
your life and as well limit your potentials when
opinions as are numerous as the number of people
living on the planet earth and everyone is entitled to
an opinion?
You may enter a board room in order to present a
business idea to them and they may think that you
are not good enough or that you do not have all it
takes to run a business properly but you should
never allow that get into you such that you now
abandon your business idea! It is really someone’s
opinion that you must have a perfect business plan in
place before you can start a business but there
are so many people who know nothing about
writing a business plan but they are doing
excellently well in their businesses!
In some other cases you may have attended
several job interviews and they may say that you
are not qualified for the job or that you do not
have the experience that they need in their
organisation!
REALITY
By Fola Daniel Adelesi
That’s really discouraging but it does not take
away the ability inside you! We should never
allow people to decide how far we can go in life
based on their own short sighted opinion about
us! Everybody has a mouth and everybody has
the right to say whatever they think or imagine
but you also have that right to reject what they
say about you and never take it as the truth! I
have said to some people before that nothing is
true in what other people are saying about you
until you confirm it!
Some people may see you and say that you can
sing and others may see you and say you will
never be able to act or become a great public
speaker! I was watching a reality TV show
recently that’s called ‘Nigeria’s Got Talent’ and
one of the aspiring contestants on the show who
is an albino got on stage with a keyboard in his
hands. As soon as one of the judges saw him she
concluded he would not do anything spectacular
because of his appearance but by the time the
guy was done singing, it was a different ball
game! The judge who had concluded on first
appearance that the guy would not do anything
spectacular was in tears and she had to publically
apologise to the young albino about judging his
appearance without listening to him! All of these
played out under five minutes so the young man
had a quick chance to change the verdict against
his dreams but it may not be that fast for you or
others! It may take you some time to prove those
who have concluded that you will not amount to
anything, wrong!
I have also heard the story of two young men
who were called together to get a verdict on
their future! The first one was told that he would
succeed so well in life with very little efforts
while the other was told that nothing he did
would yield results! He would struggle and never
be rich in life!

The one who was told that he would never
amount to anything began to work very hard
while the one who was told that he would
succeed with little efforts began to play and
while away all the time in the world. After some
years it was discovered that the young man who
was not expected to succeed had become
successful by working hard and disregarding the
verdict against his life but the one who
expected to succeed with very little efforts
never succeeded!
Let all the professionals speak all the big
grammars they have against you or anything you
do but make sure you do not take their verdicts
as the final say on your life or business and
dreams! Believe in yourself so much so that it
will not matter what any other person says! You
must not let people’s opinions run you down or
talk you out of your dreams because you have a
life to live and the way to enjoy that life is to
take life by your own dreams without the limits
of other people’s opinions! You can succeed at
anything only if you will not allow the opinions
of others cripple you!
In my opinion it is a great effort towards energy
conservation and creating a new world of paperless
transfer of information. By Sunny Oisamoje
Being a big accessories fan I couldn’t help myself
not to write an article on this subject. I’m sure you
feel the same as I when I say that an outfit isn’t as
glamorous without being accessorized.
Bracelets are one of my favorite accessories, and this can
be seen all over my jewelry box. Hands have always
represented an important body part so why shouldn’t we
take good benefit of it and enrich it with some beautiful
bracelets.
Vintage fashion is more and more
appreciated so if you are dressed
with a beautiful colorful dress you
should use a simple but special
bracelet as main accessory. This
can be the right choice, especially
if the colors on the dress are
brown, cherry or black.
You have been planning a disco
night for more than a week? You
want to get dressed in a hot black
rock outfit? In this case, a glimpse
of gold is what you need to shine.
Try a special bracelet as main
accessory, it will surely attract all
men looks on you.
Are you a romantic girl and you
want to transpose this through
your appearance? Bracelets are one
of the most obvious accessories
which represent the way you are.
Bracelets such as a jeweled stretch
bracelet. Or a faceted bracelet are
best choices.
Let your imagination fly and don’t be afraid to use
bracelets as accessories which express your personality or
feelings By Sunny Oisamoje

SELECT ENERGY COLOR
The colour is important
and can put you in a good
mood all day.
If you do not have enough
time for make-up
in the morning, at least put bright lipstick.
Red looks great as well as bright pink and coral. If you are
worried that the colour is too bright, place neutral colour as
a base and then the one you have selected. This will wipe out
the natural colour of lips and help lipstick to last longer.
How to apply lipstick – put it on the lips with a brush and
spread it with your finger. You can add a lip pencil for
longer lasting effect-matte colours are easier to maintain and
stay longer. They are highly pigmented formulas that last
longer.
THE BEST ADVICE TO HIDE AGE
Red lipstick is a magical product that suits everybody. The
older you are, the more daring red colour has to be. Always
try on before you buy a lipstick, as it may look one way in
the pack and another on the lips.
Try it on your fingers, not your hands. Skin colour of the
top of your thumb is the closest to the natural colour of
your lips.
If you are worried about wearing red, gently tap with the
lipstick in the middle of the lips and spread it.
Choose a lipstick that will suit your natural tan, not colours
that will make your teeth look whiter. So your skin will look
bright and shiny.
PREPARE A SMOOTH SURFACE
Bright colours will draw attention to your lips, so make sure
that they are in perfect condition by removing all dryness
and exfoliation with regular use of lip Vaseline. You have to
choose the perfect colour that suits the best the colour of
your skin.
The pure red and pink colour suit people with light skin and
red towards orange or warm colours suit ‘olive’ coloured skin
Dark strawberry red looks great on Asian or African-
American woman.
FRESH CORAL
If you are just exploring the world of makeup, start with
light colours for the lips. Gloss or light lipstick spread on
your lips will give you a fresh look. Choose fresh coral
lipstick, this colour is a great alternative replacement to a
bright rose and red.
Eyebrows add content to the
face and help determine its
shape. This is why proper
cleaning of the eyebrows is so
important in adding to your
overall beauty.
- Tweeze in the evening: This
will allow sufficient time for
the redness and irritation of
the skin to pass. There will be
no trace of them in the
morning.
- The tweezers should be held
at an angle and the hairs
should be pulled individually in
the direction of growth.
- Do not remove the hairs
above the eyebrows. This way
you will help them keep their
height and natural look.
- Do not pluck more hairs than
necessary.
- For a better grip, use a short
eyebrow pencil. Begin applying
it at the inner part and stroke
toward the outer part of the
eyebrow.
- Follow pencil application
with a brushing, to give it an
even spread.
MAKEUP
- The best eyebrow shape is
considered to be the one
ending a little way from the
outer corner of the eye and
peaking at the outer corner of
the iris when looking straight.
And a few more tips:
- Before tweezing, clean the
eyebrows with an alcohol
based lotion.
This helps to numb the area
and dull the pain of tweezing.
An ice cube can be used
instead of lotion.
- The tweezers should be used
at a 45 degrees angle.
- If you are applying eyebrow
pencil, choose one which is at
least two tones lighter than
the tone of your hair.

Besides clothing, makeup plays a
very important role in making you
look perfect when you are going
out to a restaurant or a night club.
Even non-professional makeup can
transform you, if it is skilfully done.
You may think it strange, but the
best way to begin your makeup is
with a relaxing bath or shower, to
wash away the traces of fatigue
from the long workday which are
most visible on the face. So if you
have 20 minutes to spare use them
in relaxation. A bath with pine
extract or essential oils can work
wonders in removing traces of
fatigue and there is hardly anything
more refreshing than a shower
alternating hot and cool water
(which must end with cool water).
After you dry up, you can treat your
skin with aromatherapy oil.
If you do not have the time or
inclination for bathing and
showering, you can still relax using
extra-quick nourishing masks. The
mask will refresh your face and
make it more youthful. Don’t forget
that one of the rules for properly
working with facial masks is that
while the mask is on your face, you
have to relax, even if it is only for a
few minutes. Lie down and think
pleasant thoughts. This will make
the mask more effective.
The facial is an almost miraculous
procedure which also soothes the
muscles responsible for
expressions. At home you can use a
variety of nourishing masks, either
store-bought products of the
cosmetic industry, or homemade
using only natural products. Spread
the mask on face and neck area, lie
down and listen to some relaxing
music. In 10 minutes you can wash
the mask away, together with the
fatigue and grievances of the day.
Now you can begin your makeup.
In order to create an exquisite
makeup that compliments you, you
have to abide by a few simple rules.
- When you are applying makeup,
the lighting has to fall on your face,
not the mirror. Make sure you can
see your whole face in the mirror,
not just a part of it.
- Evening makeup is heavier than
day makeup. Begin with the
application of foundation products.
Also, when using foundation, take
into consideration your complexion
and skin type. Foundation products
help hide small blemishes and
defects, such as spots or dark
circles under the eyes.
According to the latest fashion, you
can use sparkling particles with
your foundation product, to make
the face sparkle or to give it a
pearly glow. When choosing
foundation, make sure it is the
same colour as your skin. Only
then will you look natural and
avoid a sharp transition line. Begin
application around the eyes, patting
with your fingers. For a thinner
layer use a brush. Dab any excess
foundation away with a sponge. Do
not use too much, for this will
make you look and feel as
if you are wearing a mask.
If you have circles under your eyes,
use a concealer. Apply it under
your eyes with a flat brush and
afterwards rub it in gently with
your fingertips until the difference
in color has blended. Powder the
face with an even layer of face
powder.
- Before applying lipstick, trace the
lips with lip-liner of a similar
colour and not a contrasting one.
In creating evening makeup, it is ok
to visually enlarge the lips by
tracing their outer line, but don’t
overdo it. Add a touch of shine
and you’re done.
Mistake #1: Using Too Much Foundation
A foundation that's too thick will settle into fine lines and sap the
luminosity from your skin. "Only use foundation where you need
it to even out discoloration,You don't have to cover every inch of
your skin." When buying a foundation, avoid those described as
"matte," "velvet," and "long-wearing"; look for sheer liquid
formulas with light-diffusing pigments. If you have dry skin,
foundation can look patchy and accentuate discoloration, so
exfoliate two to three times a week and always apply a moisturizer
after cleansing.
Mistake #2: Over-Concealing Your Under-Eye Circles
A thick concealer that comes in a stick or pot will eradicate the
shadows under your eyes, but it will also draw attention to the
crepiness and fine lines that usually show up in that area first
(because the skin there is thin). A better option: A brush-on
highlighter pen that uses illuminating particles, not opaque color,
to camouflage dark circles. Apply it only near the inner corners
of your under-eye area, where shadows are most prominent (and
lines least).
Mistake #3: Wearing Deep, Dark Lip Colours
A dark colour makes any surface look smaller - a welcome illusion
perhaps on your hips but not your lips. To make your mouth look
fuller, choose bright lipsticks and glosses (peaches, pinks, vibrant
reds) over deep shades (burgundies, wines, browns). Makeup
artists use another trick to create the illusion of luscious lips.
Mistake #4: Finishing with Powder
Youthful skin reflects light. Powders prevent light reflection and
tend to magnify lines in the skin. Here's a three-step program:
First, switch to a very sheer translucent powder; then start using it
only on your nose and chin. Finally, trade the powder for a packet
of blotting tissues--use one, only on the T-zone (nose, chin, and
forehead), if you're shiny midday.
Mistake #5: Wearing Black Eyeliner
Don't skip eyeliner altogether – it’s a great way to make your eyes
look more open – but choose brown over black, which can be
harsh; and keep the colour diffuse. You want to define the eyes
with softness and blending, not strict lines. A thick liner can leave
the upper lids looking heavier than they are. The best technique:
Trace a brown pencil liner along the upper lash line (into the
roots of the lashes), focusing on the outer corners; smudge it
with a Q-tip (cotton bud).

LAMODE FASHION & GROOMING
By Victor Sylva
I’m sitting here enjoying a hot cup
tea at my office desk, trying to get
the creative juices flowing for this
article. Since everyone loves top
lists, I thought I’d give you guys
something you probably don’t see
too often, a quick list of some
practical fashion tips.
Fit is King – The most
dramatic improvement you can
make in your style is to make
sure everything fits impeccably.
Most guys wear clothes that
are too large. Make sure
everything you wear is almost
hugging the shape of your
body – without being tight.
Bad fit is an epidemic, cure
yourself.
Pay attention to your
supporting pieces - Some
sweaters are lean and others are
big and chunky. The first rule of
thumb is that your top and
bottom halves need to match. If
you’re wearing a big, chunky,
rugged fisherman knit sweater,
your bottom needs to be rugged,
too. Don’t wear a fisherman’s
sweater with a beautiful silk-andwool
suit pant. Instead, wear it
with something as casual as cargos
or jeans, or dress it up with a
Harris tweed blazer (Google that! )
Never underestimate the
power of details – The last
thing on is usually the first
thing noticed. So mind the
details instead of throwing
together the main parts of
your outfit. “Details” can
include a scarf, a subtle
pocket square, or the way you
tie your tie knot.
Disregard trends – Beware
of buying something just
because it’s “in” right now –
stick to what you truly like. A
lot of people rush to get in on
the latest trend and end up
with a bunch of clothes they
don’t wear. It’s better to learn
to build a versatile and
timeless wardrobe first – then
bring in your own twists with
some of the new fashion.
This one tip will save you so
much money!
Ask for real feedback -
Most of your friends and
family aren’t going to go out of
their way to tell you what looks
bad. You have to ask for it. In
fact, ask anyone and everyone
you trust to tell you the truth.
Ask your hairstylist, ask your
best friend, ask your mother! If
you think they might be too
nice, send me an e-mail
(victorsylva@gmail.com), I will
give you feedback.
Keep it simple – You want a
wardrobe that looks great on you,
but don’t overdo it. Don’t wear
more than three pieces of jewelry
or more than three colors. Don’t
dress like a rock star unless you’re
in a band. If you want to be flashy,
a simpler but stylish look would be
sporting a black striped dress shirt
with a white blazer, a dark pair of
jeans, a dressy belt, and your
sharpest dress shoes. You could
also add a flashy watch or a simple
accessory like an interesting
necklace, but nothing more.
Never go shopping alone –
Most of the time, it’s tough to
trust the sales people because
they usually work for
commission. Shop with a
friend who will give you their
honest opinion. (Watch out
for my next article - Shopping
on a Budget).
Invest in a superb pair of
shoes – If it’s one thing that
women will notice, it’s your
shoes. Especially how clean
and sharp they look. It’s easy
to wash and press the rest of
your clothes to keep them
looking new, but most guys
disregard their shoes. Show
that you’re a man of taste by
getting a great pair of shoes
and keeping them in pristine
condition.
Don’t be a sucker for
brand names – Before you
decide to purchase an item, ask
yourself if you are buying it
simply because of the brand
name or because you love the
quality and style. Ask yourself,
“Would I buy this if there was
no logo on it?”
Upgrade your shave -
Even if your fashion is
golden, an unkempt beard
can be an attraction killer.
Achieve a perfect shave by
trying a shave brush & oldfashioned
double-edged
razor.
Change the way you see
casual – Casual doesn’t have
to be boring. Have fun with
collared shirts, or take some
inspiration from those who
approach casual a bit
differently.
Stay a notch above – Don’t overdo
it to a fault, but dare to take some
risks. It’s always better to be a little
bit overdressed than underdressed
in any setting. All you have to do is
think about where and who you’re
going to be with and just step it up
one notch. But make sure you’re not
better dressed than someone who is
more important in a certain setting,
like your boss, we don’t want you
getting fired now do we? (Laughs)
. Fashion Tees with logos
– When you’re going around
with a big logo on your shirt,
you risk looking like a walking
billboard. Lose the lame Coca-
Cola shirt and go for a classic vneck
tee or something artsy.
Continually cultivate your
image – Invest more time
and money into your image.
Cultivate your fashion sense.
Your style is a huge mode of
communication, and is worth
caring for as much as your
education, career, and
relationships.
. Experiment with style – The
only way you’ll really learn, is if
you go out there and try new
things. I make an effort to try
something completely out of
my comfort zone whenever
I’m at a store – many times
you’ll end up loving something
you never thought you would.
If you make mistakes, life goes
on. So many guys are afraid to
express themselves through
their style, don’t be one of
them.

LAMODE HEALTH
In 1996, the World Health Organization estimated that more than 1
million people were being infected daily. About 60% of these infections
was said to occur in young people less than 25 years of age, while 30%
was said to occur in individuals less than 20 years of age. Between the ages
of 14 and 19, STIs occur more frequently in girls than boys by a ratio of
nearly 2:1. An estimated 340 million new cases of syphilis, gonorrhea,
chlamydia and trichomoniasis occurred throughout the world in 1999.
("STD Statistics Worldwide". Avert.org. Retrieved 2011-01-09)
Some STIs can be transmitted via the use of intravenous (IV) drug
needles after use by an infected person, as well as through childbirth or
breast feeding. STDs can cause very serious health problems if left
untreated, with some causing permanent damage such as infertility (the
inability to have a baby) and even death in some cases.
HEALTH
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
Infections (STIs) are infectious diseases
with significant probability of
transmission between humans by means
of human sexual behaviour
By Ose Ugbebor
SOME COMMON STDs
GENITAL HPV
What is it?
One of many viruses transferred via skin-to-skin
contact with the genitals or anus.
How common is it?
About 28 to 46 percent of sexually active young
women have it.
What are the symptoms?
Mostly none, but some types cause painless genital
warts; others can lead to cervical cancer.
Can it be treated?
Yes! An HPV vaccine is suggested for girls
between ages 9 to 26 to help prevent strains
causing cervical cancer.
CHLAMYDIA AND GONORRHEA
What is it?
Both are bacterial infections passed through
vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
How common is it?
About 5 to 10 percent of sexually active individuals
have chlamydia; 2.5 percent, gonorrhea.
What are the symptoms?
Puslike discharge, burning while peeing, bleeding
between periods; but often, no symptoms at all.
Can it be treated?
Yes! If left untreated, both diseases can develop
into pelvic inflammatory disease, which can lead to
infertility and chronic pelvic pain.

IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT
STDs
1
The younger a person starts having
sex, the greater his or her chances
of becoming infected with an STD.
2
People who have sexual contact
(not just intercourse, but any form
of intimate activity) with many
different partners are more at risk
than those who stay with the same
partner.
3
Latex condoms are the only form
of birth control that reduce your
risk of getting an STD.
Spermicides, diaphragms, and other
birth control methods may help
prevent pregnancy, but they don't
protect a person against STDs.
As with many other diseases,
prevention is key. It's much easier to
prevent STDs than to treat them.
However, if you think you or your
partner have an STD or are at risk
of having an STD, it is important
you seek a medical attention, as
failure to do so may allow the
disease to progress, causing more
damage.
In life the orientation you have as
a kid to a large extent forms how
you live your life as an adult; it
helps to build up some habits you
may develop over time. Most
people do not understand that it
is important to make a child live
healthily and eat properly.
This article is mainly about the
importance of sleep, exercises and good
food for the kids.
SLEEP: sleep affects the weight of a
child, positively or negatively.
Sleep shortfalls may increase hunger
hormones, so kids tend to eat more
when they do not get enough sleep.
They are less likely to get any exercise
when they are tired and as such are less
likely to burn any calories.
These are some
general sleep hours
that can help your
kids:
Ages 3-5 : 11-13 hrs
Ages 5-12 : 10-11 hrs
Ages 11-17 : 9-9.5 hrs
The following tips would help
kids/teens get a good night sleep:
1) Remove televisions, gadgets from
kid’s bedrooms.
2) Develop a regular bedtime routine.
3) Avoid large meals before bedtime
routine
4) Help kids quiet down a few hours
bedtime
5) Heavy studying, text message and
video games should end in early
evening.
Healthy nutrition for kids/teens begins
with their breakfast. A nutritious
breakfast is very necessary to boost the
energy levels of the kids that can last
them till lunch time. A good cereal,
juice, yoghurt, bread, pancakes.
Good nutrition fuels kids for school,
family and play time. The meals should
have the right amount of calories and
nutrients for their growing bodies..
The meals should be a colorful event.
At least 60 minutes of physical play a
day is necessary to help the child
maintain a healthy weight.
Make fitness part of your child’s day
always.

Modern devices surely have an important role to play in
the dating game nowadays. Generally,Africans are famous
for the "bandwagon" effect and simply put it means that
we crave to follow the trend. Recently,at least among
youths and teens,Facebook,Twitter and blackberry chatrooms
have become an addiction that must be satisfied no
matter the cost. The pockets that pay for these
"necessities" are promised, cajoled or deceived to ensure
that the services are available ceaselessly. A lot of personal
data is exchanged via these media and eventually hook-ups
By Micheal Obiomah
are only a matter of time away. People write their private
thoughts (and experiences) on public walls and invite
comments from all their friends. The resulting information
received can only confuse a person who is facing a major
decision as it concerns his/her relationship, and in some
cases lead to an eventually regrettable break-up.
However,as an observer I must confess that a lot of
private stuff is shared publicly and inevitably personal
relationships are being played out in front of a worldwide
audience and this does more harm than good.

LAMODE FASHION SHOE FACTOR
Now, the question is would you
prefer a block heel or a pointy
toe? Its definitely the classic shoe
question really.
The super elegant pointy heels
are a lot harder to pull off. They
exude elegance and sophistication
(when combined properly). Most
mature ladies go for this type.
Shoes remain every girl's
best friend. They can totally
upgrade an outfit or uhhmm,
ruin it. Sometimes it can be a
big war as to what type to buy
and we end up spending so
much time in shoe stores and
leaving with our over stressed
sore feet
by Onyegbu Ogechi
Whether you prefer delicate
and dainty, like the elegant pointy
toe thats made a resurgence on
the runway. Or tough and pratical,
like the block heel that can tempt
even the most vertiginously
sensitive woman and has been in
trend for 2 years going, you are
still on the right track
Alot of younger ladies might
probably prefer the block heels
because they are balanced and
easy to pull off.

By Victoria Hussein
Heels were made to increase the
height of the wearer.
That was like a thousand years ago.
A six foot tall girl would wear twelve
inch heels if it is pretty,, ignoring the
fact that could cause a plane to
crash with her neck
Although girls have been heel crazy
years before shoes with exotic
names were born,
the party just got
started when all those designers
came to town. Shoutout to
Mr. Louboutin. Come rain,
come recession, shoe sales
would always be sky high.
LAMODE FASHION
Heel-less shoes is the latest footwear
trend in Nigeria. I didn't exactly
believe my eyes when I saw it on
Victoria Beckham and Lady Gaga.
Normally, one would except shoes
like that to only be worn by Lady
Gaga so you would assume that her
official shoemaker (or designer or
whatever he's called) Noritaka
Tatehana invented the heel-less
shoes but nope, we guessed wrong.
It isn't Jeffery Campbell either, its a
Mr. Andre Perugia, God rest his soul
(sole, hehehe). Apparently, he came
up with the original design in 1937
(or there about) and called them
Trompe D'Oeil which when
translated means "fool the eye".
It is such a shame that no one paid
attention then though, they probably
thought he was some kind of sadist.
To think that girls would fall on their
faces for it seventy years later is just
crazy. We must thank Nina Ricci ,
Jeffery Campbell and Marc jacobs
for bringing them back to our divas
who are always up for a fashion
challenge.
These days it isn't about comfort
anymore, its about making a
statement. A very loud fashion
statement. Its the best way to create
a wow facor and make everyone
think you are a superhuman because
you can levitate. Goodluck looking
like a star and trying to keep your
balance at the same time.
I would probably get a pair and put
them in a show glass where I can
worship them everyday because
really, how would I manage to walk
in them on Nigerian roads? It would
only end in two ways; One, I would
fall and break my neck. Two, I would
fall and break my spine. In any case
I'm dying for a pair.

THE WAY
The first song from Coolie Buzz Oh sorry, Banky W
Album. I guess most fans may have got it confused too
when they heard the beginning of the song ..The fresh
dancehall beat takes u by surprise. A good Intro for the
album good enough to start any party too.
GOOD GOOD LOVING
This happens to be my favourite, Spellz dropped a sick
beat and that's just what you need at a Lounge by 5pm
or to cool off on your way home from work.
MAGIC (FEAT SKALES)
This song has Cobham Asuquo's signature all over it as
Banky W did well. Skales should have never been on
this song and he didn't fit the chemistry, a poor verse
from him.
FIND YOU
This song represents R&B. The most lyrical song in the
Album and something lovely for R&B fans.
YES/NO
An excellent song overall, best choice for a single. Nice
beat from Cohbam Asuquo. Banky W's
lyrics were so on point. Nice Video also, although I
don't support the dancing.
LOW KEY
Good beat. Just expected more from Banky W on
this one and didn't get it.
DO IT TO ME
This song just didn't cut it. A filler song at best.
BE MY LOVER (YES/NO PART II)
FEAT NIYOLA
A very good wedding song.
SAY (FEAT. SAMMY, SHAYDEE &
ROTIMI)
I just didn't feel this song. It just seems like four
extremely bored people talking about sex.
So disjointed, one of the worst songs on the Album.
PAST MY PAST (FEAT. SHAYDEE)
The whole song is just plain plastic. So not original
and sounds like a karaoke version of a Drake song.
No Authenticity and definitely not getting good
points on this.

Art... By Louis Appiah
My name is Louis Appiah and I’m a young digital artist.
I am an old student of Aggery Memorial Senior High in
Ghana. I have loved art since childhood. At the age of 4, my
day never ended without at least a colorful artistic scribble or
drawing with my crayons.
Growing up, I have managed to draw and paint so many
portraits of people, I however managed to transfer my skill
into the digital era of using computer design softwares like
adobe photoshop and illustrator . After my completion of
Senior high school, I have worked with some of Ghana’s top
Without the exception of Ghanaian celebrities such as Yvonne
LAMODE FASHION REVIEW
The collection takes inspiration from Butterflies one
that the brand for the last two seasons have come to
adopt in its collections. For this collection, LDA has
specially designed Butterfly prints in various textures of
silk fabrics.
The choice of Butterflies for the designer symbolises
many things from the hope of resurrection, to the
reminder of the ephemerality of life which is also a
main inspiration for the collection. Each piece in this
“Butterflies” collection is best viewed as a symbol of
beauty, femininity, and the ability to be ever changing.
The designer explains her love for Butterflies, she says
“I love Butterflies, and I always have. Whenever I see
one, I always have to stop what I’m doing to admire it.
These fragile, colourful insects are a symbol of grace,
beauty and elegance. I believe that if a butterfly lands on
your shoulder, it’s considered a sign of good luck”.
Other LDA’s signature fabrics such as Lace, Velvet,
Sequin and Silk have been used to compliment these
Butterfly prints. Also, this collection again goes to
affirm that the brand’s pieces translate internationally as
each piece is wearable across Africa, Europe and
America with the collection coming in beautiful summer
dresses, chic separates of skirts and blouses and more
glamorous and heavily embellished evening pieces.
Either way a woman decides to wear these
pieces; day or night, it works stunningly well.

Just a few years ago,
It was a place everyone longed to go,
which gave the chance for a better future,
but today everything from its core has changed and
become insecure,
though few still see it as an obligation,
to many it another thing done out of compulsion,
it was intended to make people better,
but since it lost its core,
it has reduce people to writing more application letters,
how can the human mind become so lethargic,
it’s now even more tragic,
as it reduces intelligence,
making the people static,
especially in a country like ours,
where things hardly get reviewed,
I speak of nothing strange or farfetched but our ivory
towers.
What happens to a system that never experience evolution,
reformation and transformation,
it loses its potency to proffer solutions,
though for a few it has helped make them professionals,
but for a greater number,
it is just yet a stage to produce job seekers additional,
how can we continue like this,
this system should not reduce intelligence to grades,
yet the genius the world has seen, we considered dull like
Einstein,
or dropouts like Gates,
let's not forget our own Papa,
who changed the face of the gospel in Africa,
these men no system hold claims,
made them who they are.
These men saw that the mind cannot be held back by the
four walls of a class,
they saw what was outside the glass,
thinking outside the box,
showing that God so blessed the mind with diverse
creativity and invention
that He allowed man take dominion of earth.
Education is good,
but the mind can do much more than learned in the class,
let's stop being cool,
there is so much still to be achieved,
creativity beckons,
not to make people stereotype,
yet only a few reckons,
Ivory Tower
By Osagie Alex
not to make people stereotype,
but to produce people of different types,
that their contribution to development,
will make a course out of their achievement,
there is no limit to what the mind can do,
yet more often than not it has been reduced to status quo,
if we must see a change in this system,
means must be devised to measure intelligence other than grades,
many have made A's in class,
and failed woefully in life,
many have gone through the system, picked a degree, yet it seem
like a decrease as they are employed by those who didn't have a
degree,
to what end is this quagmire, other than more dilemma,
how can you explain why many graduates never use their
certificates yet they excel in whatever they are doing today,
Calculus Dy, Dx has no life application,
so our education curriculum must find a solution.
How do you explain a Nobel Laureate, finished with a pass after
years in the Ivory Tower, but became world renowned,
the system has lost its core,
its grading system even poor,
it is time to wake up.
The mind should never be reduced to the class,
though it can be trained in a class,
it can look outside the glass,
I believe in education,
but the mind still has more to offer,
besides a few took education to this level,
let's become a part of the few that takes it to the next level,
because I believe we are still scratching the surface of what the
mind can do, and how intelligent we could be,
IQ test was designed by a mind,
it shouldn't be the standard to measuring what other minds can do,
think about it, there is more you and I can do,
we have only limited our minds before now.
School is not the right measure of the excellence of your mind. It
matters what you get out of school, school was not designed for a
certificate but to help you establish a way of life, build an excellent
relationship with other people and refine your mind. The
intelligence of your mind may never be correctly rated in college.
You may get a 'D' in class but don't get a 'D' in life. It is amazing
how we prepare for school exams but fail to prepare for life's
exam. Go to school, be educated not just certified.
I believe in education, but the mind still has more to offer.
