A RANGE OF COMPREHENSIVE DATABASES<br />
The International Index to <strong>Film</strong>/TV Periodicals contains<br />
almost 300,000 article references from more than 300<br />
periodicals. It <strong>of</strong>fers in-depth coverage <strong>of</strong> the world’s<br />
foremost academic and popular film journals. Each entry<br />
consists <strong>of</strong> a full bibliographic description, an abstract and<br />
comprehensive headings (biographical names, film titles<br />
and general subjects). It is also the only database <strong>of</strong>fering<br />
film periodical indexing using a hierarchically ordered<br />
controlled thesaurus, which contains more than 20,000<br />
subject terms.<br />
Other <strong>FIAF</strong> databases included are the Treasures from the<br />
<strong>Film</strong> Archives, containing unique information about silent<br />
film holdings in film archives, the Bibliography <strong>of</strong> <strong>FIAF</strong><br />
Members Publications and the International Directory <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Film</strong>/TV Documentation Collections.<br />
USER-FRIENDLY SOFTWARE<br />
The new version uses SilverPlatter s<strong>of</strong>tware designed for<br />
optimal search effectiveness with minimal user training.<br />
The <strong>FIAF</strong> Database provides powerful networking solutions and<br />
Internet access through flexible ERL (Electronic Reference Library)<br />
technology, which is used by thousands <strong>of</strong> institutions<br />
worldwide. ERL also supports a choice <strong>of</strong> links to electronic<br />
full-text articles and library holdings information. Z39.50 access<br />
is available.<br />
