As co-directors, how do you go about deciding
which of your four hands will do what?
Vincent Patar: It’s hard to say. When we’re absorbed in making a
film, it’s difficult to step back and analyze precisely who did what.
Obviously, we complement each other. If Stéphane brings a lot
to the script then maybe I’ll step up and arrange things a little
more in front of the camera, for the more hands-on “directing”
portion of a given project. We talk all the time, we’re constantly
bouncing ideas off each other and somehow a finished project
emerges. It’s like a permanent game of high-energy ping pong.
Quel rôle joue chacun de vous dans vos créations
à « quatre mains » ?
Vincent Patar : C’est difficile à dire. Quand on a le nez dans
notre travail, on n’a pas vraiment le recul nécessaire pour
analyser clairement les choses. Nous sommes évidemment
complémentaires. Quand Stéphane apporte beaucoup au
scénario, j’interviens peut-être davantage devant la caméra,
pour la mise en scène. C’est chaque fois en parlant beaucoup
ensemble que l’on arrive à nourrir les projets, en jouant au
ping-pong avec nos idées, en se renvoyant sans cesse la balle.
