Installing the Software
Changes to your system after installation
After GroupShield has been installed on your system for the first time, you
will notice the following changes:
The product is installed in the directory specified during installation.
A GroupShield Exchange snap-in is present in the Microsoft
Management Console (MMC).
A hidden Windows 2000 user account and a Microsoft Exchange mailbox
named GSE is created.
A Quarantine Manager database or quarantine directory is created on
your Microsoft Exchange server.
A new Organization() folder is created on the Microsoft
Exchange server if it did not already exist.
Two organization forms, AVform and Sumform are in the \i386 folder
under the Forms directory. The forms display the GroupShield Exchange
anti-virus reports. For descriptions of the forms and their actions, see the
GroupShield version 5.2 for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Product Guide.
The McAfee and Network Associates services are added to your system,
viewable in the Services console. The following services start
automatically when GroupShield is installed:
McAfee GroupShield Exchange. This is dependent on the Microsoft
Exchange Information Store service.
McAfee GroupShield On-Line Update service.
McAfee Log Service. This may already exist on your system if you are
running other McAfee anti-virus software.
Network Associates Alert Manager service. This may already exist on your
system if you are running other McAfee anti-virus software.
McAfee Outbreak Manager service. This service is dependent on the
McAfee Log Service. It may already exist on your system if you are
running other McAfee anti-virus software and operates as a Microsoft
Windows service, so it continually monitors your computer.
NOTE: Occasionally you may need to stop and restart one of the
GroupShield services for a particular action to take effect. To find
out more, see the GroupShield version 5.2 for Microsoft Exchange 2000
Product Guide.
