Sobchack décrit ce regard comme une « pathologie perceptive d’une autre personne »,
qui est une maladie culturelle profondément ancrée dans notre société. Le regard qui a
« éviscéré » Audre comme petite fille noire « élimine la certitude du corps… et fait douter de
son corps, même perdre son corps entier dans l’incertitude totale » (Sobchack, 2004:197).
