hours primary medical care may reduce the immediate medical workload.<br />

When GP services are offered close to an ED there is some evidence this may<br />

reduce the number of self-referrals at emergency departments. However, the<br />

effect seems to be small.<br />

Further rigorous evaluation of these alternatives is needed focusing on service use,<br />

safety, cost and patient satisfaction.
