PART II. SPECIAL PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE DIFFERENT RISKS
Section 1. Sickness, Maternity and Death (Death Grant)
Article 6
1. In the case of Rhine boatmen who have been insured successively or
alternately under the schemes of two or more contracting countries, periods
spent under all such schemes and equivalent periods shall, in so far as they do
not overlap, be aggregated for the purposes both of the acquisition of the right
to benefit and of the maintenance or recovery of such right. Nevertheless, periods
credited in a contracting country in an occupation other than that of Rhine
boatman shall be aggregated for the purposes of this Article only if the insured
person has worked as a Rhine boatman in that country during the reference
period, or the qualifying period, prescribed by the laws or regulations of the
country which grants the benefit.
2. The benefits due in case of sickness shall be at the cost of the institution
of the scheme which was competent for the insured person at the date when the
complaint was first medically certified.
3. Maternity benefits shall be at the cost of the institution of the scheme
which was competent for the insured person at the presumed date of conception.
If this date cannot be determined, it shall be deemed to be that corresponding
to the 270th day preceding the birth.
4. The death grant shall be at the cost of the institution of the scheme
which was competent for the Rhine boatman at the time of his death.
Article 7
1. The benefits in kind to which a Rhine boatman falling ill in a contracting
country other than that of the institution with which he is insured is entitled
shall be furnished by the sickness insurance institution of the place where he is
staying.
2. A Rhine boatman who falls ill in the territory of a contracting country
other than that of his residence, and who returns to this latter country during
his illness, shall be entitled to the benefits in kind furnished by the sickness
insurance institution of his place of residence only if the insurance institution
competent for him gives its prior consent to his return.
3. Benefits in kind to which family members are entitled when they reside
in the territory of a contracting country other than their country of insurance
shall be furnished by the sickness insurance institutions of their country of
residence.
