No. 2185. AGREEMENT' BETWEEN SWEDEN AND SWITZ-<br />

ERLAND RELATING TO AIR SERVICES. SIGNED<br />

AT BERNE, ON 18 OCTOBER 1950<br />

The Royal Swedish Government and the Swiss Federal Council, considering<br />

:<br />

that the possibilities of commercial aviation as a means of transport have<br />

considerably increased;<br />

that it is <strong>des</strong>irable to organize regular air communications in a safe and<br />

orderly manner and to develop as far as possible international co-operation in<br />

this field;<br />

that it is therefore necessary to conclude an agreement between Sweden and<br />

Switzerland with a view to establishing regular air communications,<br />

have for this purpose appointed representatives who, being duly authorized<br />

thereto, have agreed as follows:<br />

Article 1<br />

(a) The Contracting Parties grant each other in peacetime the rights<br />

specified in the Annex hereto for the establishment of the international air services<br />

<strong>des</strong>cribed therein, which pass through or serve their respective territories.<br />

(b) Each Contracting Party shall <strong>des</strong>ignate an airline to operate the agreed<br />

services and shall decide upon the date of opening of such services.<br />

Article 2<br />

(a) Each Contracting Party shall, subject to the provisions of article 6<br />

hereunder, issue the requisite operating permit to the airline <strong>des</strong>ignated by the<br />

other Contracting Party.<br />

(b) Nevertheless, before being authorized to open the agreed services, the<br />

<strong>des</strong>ignated airline may be called upon to satisfy the aeronautical authority competent<br />

to issue the operating permit that it fulfils the conditions prescribed under<br />

the laws and regulations normally applicable by that authority.<br />

16 May 1951, the date on which the Swiss Federal Council notified the Swedish Government of the<br />

approval of the Agreement by the Swiss Federal Chambers, in accordance with the provisions<br />

of article 9.
