Your doctor has asked you to do a urine test to check for Chlamydia. It is important to follow certain
instructions when obtaining the urine specimen for this test in order to assure the quality of the analysis.
How to proceed :
• Please use a clean preservative–free container.
• It is best to collect the first urine in the morning. If you collect urine during the day for this test, wait
until at least two (2) hours have passed since you last urinated.
• It is important that you collect the first stream of urine directly in the container that is used for this test.
• Collect the first 10 to 50 ml only. Do not fill the container.
• Be sure that your full name and date of birth are clearly written on the container.
• Write the date you collected the specimen on the container.
The specimen must be kept in the refrigerator and be taken, within the 24 hours following collection, to the
collection centre (centre de prélèvement) at the CHUS Fleurimont or Hôtel-Dieu. Do not keep it in the
freezer.
If a urine culture is requested at the same time, you can wash the urinary opening as indicated for the
culture. The container used to collect the urine for the Chlamydia test can be used as the first stream and
then the remainder of the urine can be collected as the (mid-stream) urine needed for the urine culture in
the container provided for this.
