The average Chlorophyll-a content of all<br />

plants under stress conditions (Figure 8A)<br />

decreased from a range of about 4.5 to<br />

6 mg.ml -1 at the beginning of the trial down<br />

to around 3 mg.ml -1 by the end of the trial.<br />

There was no significant difference in Chlorophyll-a<br />

concentrations between plants under<br />

any of the CO 2 concentrations (P>0.05). For<br />

the control treatment, Chlorophyll-a gradually<br />

increased at the beginning of the trial to reach<br />

around 5.5 mg.ml -1 , then decreased sharply<br />

after the 23 March to reach 3.6 mg/ml,<br />

1.8 mg.ml -1 (P
