Pr Thierry DUTOIT Éditeur en chef Editor-in-Chief ecologia mediterranea – Vol. 38 (1) – 2012 Éditorial – Editorial En 2012, l’Institut méditerranéen d’écologie et de paléoécologie (IMEP) devient l’Institut méditerranéen de biodiversité et écologie (IMBE) Au 1 er janvier 2012, l’Institut méditerranéen d’écologie et de paléoécologie (IMEP) est devenu l’Institut méditerranéen de biodiversité et écologie (IMBE). Ce nouvel institut comprend des chercheurs de la toute nouvelle université d’Aix-Marseille, le CNRS (Institut écologie et environnement), l’IRD et l’université d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse. Au total, plus de 200 professionnels de la recherche en environnement travailleront dans le cadre de ce nouvel institut avec comme objectif principal, l’étude des diverses facettes de la biodiversité, principalement sur le pourtour méditerranéen (l’un des 34 points chauds de biodiversité au niveau mondial). Il s’agira ainsi plus précisément, dans une perspective d’écologie dite globale, de réconcilier « biodiversité et humanités » en analysant les impacts du changement climatique et des modes d’usage des terres sur le fonctionnement des systèmes écologiques et les services écosystémiques en étudiant également la relation homme-milieu dans les zones littorales et côtières, y compris le milieu urbain ainsi que la diversité génétique des organismes et leur évolution moléculaire. L’originalité de cette démarche réside aussi dans le fait d’associer chercheurs en milieu marin et chercheurs en milieu continental, deux communautés rarement réunies. Cette nouvelle organisation aura ainsi pour conséquences une ouverture, dès 2013, de la revue ecologia mediterranea aux articles d’écologie et de biologie marines. In 2012, the Mediterranean Institute of Ecology and Palaeoecology become the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Ecology On January first, 2012, the Mediterranean Institute of Ecology and Palaeoecology (IMEP) became the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE). This new institute includes researchers of Aix-Marseille University, the CNRS (Institute of Ecology and Environment), the IRD and the University of Avignon. More than 200 professionals will work with as main objective, the study of the diverse facets of biodiversity, mainly around the Mediterranean Basin (one of the 34 hot-spots of biodiversity in the world). This new organization will so have for consequences an opening from 2013, of ecologia mediterranea to papers on marine ecology and biology. 3
