C: untreated seeds (•); T1: seeds grinded in a mortar
with a pinch of clean silica sand (); T2: seeds rubbed
with sandpaper (); T3: seeds soaked in hot water
(); T4, T5 and T6: seeds immersed in sulphuric acid
for 10 (), 20 () and 30 min (*), respectively. The
symbols are the observed numbers of germinated
seeds, expressed as percent of sown seeds (n = 4).
treatments (Dhief et al.).
See Figure 2 for legend.
(C): untreated seeds (control); (T1): mechanical scarification by grinding
seeds in a mortar with a pinch of clean silica sand; (T2): mechanical
scarification by rubbing seeds with sandpaper; (T3): immersion in boiling
water for 10 min; (T4): immersion in concentrated sulphuric acid (96%) for
10 min; (T5): immersion in concentrated sulphuric acid for 20 min; (T6):
immersion in concentrated sulphuric acid for 30 min. Data represent mean
± SE (n = 4) and different letters indicate significant differences between
treatments at p < 0.05 (Duncan test).
