On s’intéresse ici à la compression non conservative qui<br />
diminue la quantité d’information. C’est d’un usage courant,<br />
en particulier pour optimiser le stockage <strong>et</strong> la transmission<br />
des photos, du son <strong>et</strong> de la vidéo. L’idée est de minimiser<br />
l’impact sensoriel de la perte d’information. C’est subjectif.<br />
Une mesure simple <strong>et</strong> honorable de la différence est la<br />
méthode des moindres carrées (∼ norme L 2 )<br />

◮ transformée du signal sur une base de fonctions, par<br />

Les ondel<strong>et</strong>tes sont bien adaptées à la représentation des<br />
signaux sensoriels car elles représentent bien les variations<br />
brusques comme par exemple les frontières d’obj<strong>et</strong>s sur une<br />
photo.<br />
Optimisation de la base<br />
◮ Le principe de base de la compression utilise<br />
l’approximation non linéaire mais on peut aussi adapter<br />
la base pour minimiser le nombre de coefs significatifs<br />
◮ Utilisation des paqu<strong>et</strong>s d’ondel<strong>et</strong>tes : il existe un<br />
algorithme rapide pour choisir le meilleur paqu<strong>et</strong><br />
◮ pour aller encore plus loin, on peut abandonner<br />
l’invariance par translation de la base ainsi que son<br />
orthogonalité <strong>et</strong> adapter localement (dans l’espace ou le<br />
temps suivant le cas) la base au signal<br />
◮ il faut alors bien sûr également encoder le choix de la<br />
base dans le signal compressé<br />
