Launching Instruction<br />

Launch the VIKING RescYou liferaft by<br />

throwing it over board.<br />

As illustrated the launching procedure is as<br />

follows:<br />

1. Detach the container from its cradle. If<br />

the liferaft is packed in valise it must be<br />

removed from its storage space. The<br />

painter line must be fastened on board.<br />

2. Throw the liferaft over board.<br />

3. Haul in the painter line to an approximate<br />

length of 10 metres. Then give a sharp<br />

pull and the liferaft will inflate.<br />

4. Board the liferaft by keeping the liferaft<br />

close to ship’s side.<br />

Righting of Liferaft<br />

If the liferaft which is not selfrighting (UKL),<br />

contrary to expectation, turns upside down<br />

it needs to be turned manually.<br />

As illustrated the righting procedure is as<br />

follows:<br />

1. Turn the liferaft so that the wind blows<br />

in under it.<br />

2. Crawl up on the liferaft bottom at the<br />

sign: “RIGHT HERE”.<br />

3. Get a solid hold of the righting strap at<br />

the bottom. Place your feet on the CO 2<br />

cylinder and lean well back. The liferaft<br />

will turn.<br />

4. Move away from the liferaft when it<br />

turns.<br />

5. If the liferaft accidently falls on top of<br />

you move away from liferaft with your<br />

chest against the sea surface to avoid<br />

lifejacket from getting caught in the<br />

liferaft.<br />

Staying in the Liferaft<br />

The command on board the liferaft is<br />

assigned to the most experienced person<br />

among those in distress. This person will<br />

allocate drinking water, emergency rations,<br />

etc. Further, you should make yourselves<br />

familiar with the interior and functions of<br />

the liferaft. Also, sit or lie closely together<br />

to keep warm.<br />

Emergency Pack and Equipment<br />

An emergency pack is attached to the<br />

buoyancy tube of the liferaft. The emergency<br />

pack contains, among other things,<br />

first aid kit and signalling equipment with<br />

instructions for use. Besides, paddles, a pair<br />

of bellows and a repair kit are attached to<br />

the emergency pack.<br />

Hand flare, Flash + batteries, Whistle, Spare<br />

batteries + bulb, Bouyant safety knife, Paddle,<br />

Bellow, Sea anchor, Repair kit, Bailer,<br />

Parachute light, Seasickness tablets, Rescue<br />

quoit, Sponge, Signalling Mirror, First aid<br />

kit, Survival manual, Life-saving signals<br />

description, Thermal protection aids, Fishing<br />

Tackle, Safety tin opener, Water bags,<br />

Food ration, Plastic bag, Hand flares and<br />

Radar reflector.<br />

Assembling the Means Of Life-Saving<br />

During rescues involving several liferafts,<br />

these shall be interconnected as far as possible<br />

at a distance of at least 12 m.<br />
