No. 75 Sir, [TRANSLATION - TRADUCTION] Pretoria, 14 September 1956 In its note No. 23/73 of 2 May 1956, the Department of External Affairs informed my predecessor that the Government of the Union of South Africa was willing to grant the necessary authorization for a second frequency to be operated by the U.A.T. Company between Paris and Johannesburg, provided that certain amendments were made to the Agreement of 17 September 19541 between France and the Union of South Africa in regard to air services between the territories of the two countries. The proposed amendments read as follows: [See note 11] I have the honour to inform you that the French Government agrees to these proposed amendments and I should be glad if you would kindly confirm that the South African Government agrees to the application of the Agreement of 17 September 1954, as amended. 1956 Nations Unies - Recueil des Traitds 415 Your Excellency, II DEPARTMENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS PRETORIA 24th September, 1956 I have the honour to acknowledge your Note No. 75 of the 14th September, 1956, informing me of the French Government's acceptance of the following amendments to the Air Agreement entered into between the Governments of the Union of South Africa and France on 17th September, 1954, in recognition of the Union Government's willingness to agree to a second frequency per week being operated between Paris and Johannesburg, and return, by the air carrier Union Mromaritime de Transport (U.A.T.) : 1. The Agreement entered into between the Government of France and the Government of the Union of South Africa on 17 September, 1954, in regard to air services between their respective territories (hereinafter referred to as the agreement), is hereby amended by the insertion in paragraph (1) of article 4 after the word "Brazzaville" of the words "or Douala". 2. Article 6 of the agreement is hereby amended by the insertion in the column headed "Traffic Stops" after the word "Brazzaville" of the words "or Douala". 3. Article 8 of the agreement is hereby amended: (a) by the substitution in paragraph (1) for the word "once" of the words "not more than twice"; and (b) by the substitution in paragraph (2) for the word "once" of the words "not more than twice". 4. Article 9 of the agreement is hereby amended: (a) by the substitution in paragraph (1) for the word "fifty-eight" of the word "sixty-eight" and by the substitution for the word "flight" of the word "week"; (b) by the substitution in sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (2) for the word "fiftyeight" of the word "sixty-eight", by the substitution in paragraph (b) of paragraph (2) for the word "three" of the word "four" and by the substitution in paragraph (2) for the word "flight" of the word "week". 5. Article 10 of the agreement is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraphs (1) and (2) of the following paragraph, the existing paragraph (3) becoming paragraph (2): "l) The airline designated by the Government of France shall not publish or cause to be published any advertisement likely to encourage or promote on its services traffic from Great Britain to territory of the Union of South Africa or from territory of the Union of South Africa to Great Britain." I have the honour to acknowledge your Note No. 75 of the 14th September, 1956,<br />
