Pretoria, 14 September 1956
In its note No. 23/73 of 2 May 1956, the Department of External Affairs informed
my predecessor that the Government of the Union of South Africa was willing to grant
the necessary authorization for a second frequency to be operated by the U.A.T. Company
between Paris and Johannesburg, provided that certain amendments were made to the
Agreement of 17 September 19541 between France and the Union of South Africa in
regard to air services between the territories of the two countries.
The proposed amendments read as follows:

I have the honour to inform you that the French Government agrees to these proposed
amendments and I should be glad if you would kindly confirm that the South African
Government agrees to the application of the Agreement of 17 September 1954, as amended.
