The Larchmont Yacht Club was
transformed into a jungle paradise
when this year’s Club Brazil Gala took
over. Everything, including steamy
rainforest-like weather, resembled an
evening in the tropics. The 2008
co-chairs, Chantal Bourges and
Danielle Spandau, along with the
decorations committee co-chairs,
Véronique Dick-Van Pottelbergh and
Patricia Beeck, made it a night to
remember. Their team hung yards of
fabric, colorful parrot piñatas, and
prominent banana leaf signage, not to
mention the exquisite bedecked and dazzling centerpieces.
“Mistress” of Ceremonies, Golden Globe award-winning
actress and FASNY grandmother Josette Banzet, ensured the
soiree was an unforgettable one. Her vibrant nature emanated
through the night’s air as bidders put up record numbers during
the live auction. More record numbers came from Corporate
Sponsor Chair Catherine de Clerck and Advertising Chair Rania
Saghir, who both reached record highs in their respective positions.
Fiona Swerdlow, auction chair, put together a long list of
items that could tickle the fancy of the most fastidious bidder,
from trips to St. Barthélemy and St. Martin to sleepovers at the
American Museum of Natural History, not to mention items
from Cartier and Christian Dior, plus, a Patrick Bancel original
painting, which he created live, during the Gala. With such
tantalizing items, auctioneer and FASNY parent Geza von
Habsburg’s job for the evening was that much easier. n
