Concert — FASNY: A True Rock ‘n’ Roll Nation
concerts, raconte Jack Faure ’12. J’ai donc rêvé d’y jouer depuis
A free Rock Concert in Mamaroneck for
one night only? Yes! Parents and Upper
School students were treated to
performances by FASNY’s own Rock Club.
Students in Grades 6 and up showed off
their musical talent in June. This annual
event was organized by Coach Mike Taylor.
Students, alumni, and teachers not only
played the acoustic and electric guitars,
keyboard, and drums, but they also sang
popular rock songs spanning from the ’60s
to today. “They were really pushing to do
Led Zeppelin, and I was tentative because
it’s so difficult,” Mr. Taylor said. “But, you
know, they really pulled it off.”
“These kids are being asked to try something
completely different,” Mr. Taylor said, giving his protégés
some credit for stepping into the spotlight, and it was clear
that they were eager to have that chance. “My brother
and sister were in every single one, so I’ve wanted to play
in it since I was in fourth grade,” said Jack Faure ’12. It
was Jack’s third year performing.
For others, like Paul de Bretteville ’12, the Rock
Concert provides them with a taste of their future
aspirations. “It’s one of my biggest dreams, to be a
professional musician and play in a band,” Paul, who
enrolled in FASNY this year, said.
Excitement was buzzing through the atmosphere, but
for Joaquin Delmar ’14, a first timer in the Rock Concert,
it was more than just a show. “Music is the most beautiful
language,” he said. “It’s one that everyone understands.
Music is awesome.” n
