BAGHDAD - Iraq rejected on Thursday Turkey's suggestion<br />
that rebel Kurds in northern Iraq resume dialogue with Baghdad,<br />
saying Ankara was "1eddling in Iraq's domestic affairs. It also<br />
<strong>de</strong>nounced the Turkish parliament's ~ecision to renew the man-<br />
, date of allied planes to use Turkish bases to shield Kurdish rebelheld<br />
territory in northern Iraq from attacks by Iraqi armed forces.<br />
" ...such talk is unwanted interference in Iraq's intèrnal affairs,"<br />
the official newspaper al-Qadissiyah said in a front-page editorial<br />
on recent Turkish remarks that Iraqi Kurds make peace with<br />
Baghdad.<br />
Turkey's Forei~n Ministry spokesman Ferhat Ataman said on<br />
Wednesday that Ankara had ma<strong>de</strong> clear to Kurdish rebellea<strong>de</strong>rs<br />
that normalization of the situation in northern Iraq would only<br />
take place within Iraq. "We always point out the necessity of dialogue<br />
b<strong>et</strong>ween the Kurds in Northern Iraq and the Baghdad government,"<br />
Ataman ad<strong>de</strong>d.<br />
Turkey hosted peace talksb<strong>et</strong>ween Jalal Talabani, lea<strong>de</strong>r of the<br />
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Massoud Barzani who<br />
heads the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) ort Monday. PUK<br />
and KDPhave been fighting for more than a month. Hundreds<br />
have died.<br />
Qadissiyah also blasted Turkey for allowing U.S., British and<br />
French planes to use ils bases to enforce a safe-haven and a no-fly<br />
zone for rebel Kurds in northern Iraq.<br />
