ATH ENS- Greece on Tuesday described as
"ridiculous" the Turkish charges that terrorists
from the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party
(PKK) were being trained here.
"I think all of these (charges) are ridiculous,"
Foreign Minister Carolos Papou lias told
reporters.
His statement came a few days after Turkish
President Suleyman Demirel sent a letter with
regard to the PKK to Greek President
Constantine Karamanlis.
Although the contents of the letter have not
been made public, government sources say it
includes previous Turkish charges that the PKK
was operating an office and training its members

Çiller says '107 terrorists killed in one week'

ANKARA- At the weekly meeting of her parliamentary
group on Tuesday, Prime Minister
Çiller, who is also the ch~rson of the ruling
True Path Party (DYP), saId that the government's
anti-terrorism policy is being pursued
with great determination.
Conèerning the battle against the outlawed
Kurdistan Workers' Party in the Southeast, Çiller
said, "107 members of tfJe PKK have been killed
and 165 have been arrested." She added that
emergency rule in the region had to be extended
an additional four months.
Çiller also mentioned that the number of terronsts
caught in the past five months was equivalent
to 43 percent of those captured during the
last 10 years.
"The latest events demonstrate our determination
on the issue," she stated.
The prime minister assured the DYP parliamentary
group that necessary measures for the
protectIon of the citizens in the Southeast were
also being taken and that the people in the region
were demonstrating their oppositIon to the PKK.
