southeast of Irbil, the capital of<br />
the enclave that has been seen as the<br />
nucleus of an in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nt Kurdish<br />
state.<br />
The claims could not be in<strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>ntly<br />

A~KARA- A total of 56 militants of the outlawed<br />
Kurdi~tan Wor~ers' Party (P~) have been killed during<br />
operations carned out by' secunly forces in the southeast<br />
provinces of Hakkari, Sûrt and Sirnak, an announcement<br />
from the office of the emergency rule governor said on<br />
Wednesday.<br />
It reported that .s~ security troops ~ been killed in the<br />
clashes. Of the militants, 38 were saId to have been killed<br />
in the locali~ of Alanduzu in Hakkari, 12 in the town of<br />
Baykan in Snrt and 16 in the bor<strong>de</strong>r region of Ovaköy in<br />
the town of Silopi in Sirnak. It said arms, rock<strong>et</strong> launchers<br />
and hand grenaoes had also been seized by the security<br />
forces during the operations.<br />
Meanwhire, Emergency Rule Governor Ünal Erkan said<br />
1,168 terrorists had been killed within the past two months<br />
and that 172 of them had turned themselves in to the security<br />
forces. .<br />

Erkan claimed tliat the PKKhad caused the recent migration<br />

Noting that most of those who migrated had relatives in<br />
northern Iraq, Erkan said that the PKK bad led 8 000 citizens<br />
oyer th~ bor<strong>de</strong>r an~ provi<strong>de</strong>d each family with $1,500<br />
as an lDcentlve. He SaId that the PKK hoped to achieve<br />
three goals with these migrations: spreadi1Ïg anti-Turkish<br />
propaganda abroad; securing political authonty in northern<br />
~ and hin<strong>de</strong>ring the security forces' cross-oor<strong>de</strong>r operations.<br />
Also in the Southeast, security forces discovered the bodies<br />
of 20 of the 25 PKK militants who had been killed in a<br />
clash with security forces on Tuesday after having blocked<br />
the Erzurum-ErziDcan highway and rai<strong>de</strong>d villages nearby.<br />

ANKARA, 3 juin (AFP) - 32 personnes, dont 25 maquisards kur<strong>de</strong>s, ont été<br />
tuées au cours <strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>rnières 24 heures dans <strong>de</strong>s opérations <strong>et</strong> combats dans<br />
le sud-est anatolien à majorité kur<strong>de</strong>, a-t-on appris vendredi à Ankara.<br />
21 rebelles du Parti <strong>de</strong>s travailleurs du Kurdistan (PKK, séparatiste) <strong>et</strong><br />
3 soldats turcs ont été tués lors <strong>de</strong> combats ou opérations militaires dans<br />
les régions <strong>de</strong> Hakkari <strong>et</strong> <strong>de</strong> Sirnak, à la frontière avec la Syrie, l'Irak <strong>et</strong><br />
l'Iràn, <strong>et</strong> <strong>de</strong> Diyarbakir, chef-lieu du sud-est anatolien, indique vendredi<br />
un communiqué <strong>de</strong> la super-préfecture <strong>de</strong> Diyarbakir.<br />
Par ailleurs, 4 maquisards kur<strong>de</strong>s <strong>et</strong> 4 civils ont été tués lors d'une<br />
attaque rebelle nocturne contre le village <strong>de</strong> Gurece, dans la région <strong>de</strong><br />
Bitlis, a rapporté l'agence turque Anatolie.<br />
Un groupe <strong>de</strong> militants armés du PKK a attaqué le village jeudi soir tuant<br />
quatre <strong>de</strong>s villageois <strong>et</strong> blessant huit autres. Quatre rebelles ont été tués<br />
lorsque <strong>de</strong>s habitants du village ont riposté, selon la même source.<br />
Les forces <strong>de</strong> l'ordre turques ont lancé une opération dans la région.<br />
