friends are sensitive about any relationship
between the PKK and any

Ataman also denied any knowledge
of Iran sending troops to Halabja. ''We
have no information to confrrm that.
Our contacts in the region do not confrrm
this," h~ said.
In a related development, some
4,000 ,People have been reportedly
killed ID a month of clashes between
Kurdish factions in northern Iraq,
Iran's official Islamic Republic News
Agency (lRNA) said Tuesâay.
IRNA quoted the leader of the
Kurdistan Hezbollah group, a Tehranbacked
Muslim fundamentalist faction,
as saying that the rival PUK was
committing atrocities in northern Iraq.
Adham Barzani said "a mass grave of
at least 200 wornen and children" had
been discovered 22 miles (35 kilometers)
southeast of Irbil, the capital of
the enclave that has been seen as the
nucleus of an independent Kurdish
state.
The claims could not be independently
confirmed.
PUK spokesman Barham ~a!eh
denied the reputed death toll as wildly
exaggerated" and said the massacre
report was a "complete fabrication."

56 PKK militants killed

A~KARA- A total of 56 militants of the outlawed
Kurdi~tan Wor~ers' Party (P~) have been killed during
operations carned out by' secunly forces in the southeast
provinces of Hakkari, Sûrt and Sirnak, an announcement
from the office of the emergency rule governor said on
Wednesday.
It reported that .s~ security troops ~ been killed in the
clashes. Of the militants, 38 were saId to have been killed
in the locali~ of Alanduzu in Hakkari, 12 in the town of
Baykan in Snrt and 16 in the border region of Ovaköy in
the town of Silopi in Sirnak. It said arms, rocket launchers
and hand grenaoes had also been seized by the security
forces during the operations.
Meanwhire, Emergency Rule Governor Ünal Erkan said
1,168 terrorists had been killed within the past two months
and that 172 of them had turned themselves in to the security
forces. .

informatIon concemmg the separatist PKK and fundamentalist
Hezbollah organizations.
Erkan claimed tliat the PKKhad caused the recent migration
of Turkish citizens to northern Iraq so as to prace
~urkey in a difficult position vis-a-vis the foreign commu-
IDly.
Noting that most of those who migrated had relatives in
northern Iraq, Erkan said that the PKK bad led 8 000 citizens
oyer th~ border an~ provided each family with $1,500
as an lDcentlve. He SaId that the PKK hoped to achieve
three goals with these migrations: spreadi1Ïg anti-Turkish
propaganda abroad; securing political authonty in northern
~ and hindering the security forces' cross-oorder operations.
Also in the Southeast, security forces discovered the bodies
of 20 of the 25 PKK militants who had been killed in a
clash with security forces on Tuesday after having blocked
the Erzurum-ErziDcan highway and raided villages nearby.

32 personnes, dont 25 rebelles kurdes, tuées dans le sud-est
ANKARA, 3 juin (AFP) - 32 personnes, dont 25 maquisards kurdes, ont été
tuées au cours des dernières 24 heures dans des opérations et combats dans
le sud-est anatolien à majorité kurde, a-t-on appris vendredi à Ankara.
21 rebelles du Parti des travailleurs du Kurdistan (PKK, séparatiste) et
3 soldats turcs ont été tués lors de combats ou opérations militaires dans
les régions de Hakkari et de Sirnak, à la frontière avec la Syrie, l'Irak et
l'Iràn, et de Diyarbakir, chef-lieu du sud-est anatolien, indique vendredi
un communiqué de la super-préfecture de Diyarbakir.
Par ailleurs, 4 maquisards kurdes et 4 civils ont été tués lors d'une
attaque rebelle nocturne contre le village de Gurece, dans la région de
Bitlis, a rapporté l'agence turque Anatolie.
Un groupe de militants armés du PKK a attaqué le village jeudi soir tuant
quatre des villageois et blessant huit autres. Quatre rebelles ont été tués
lorsque des habitants du village ont riposté, selon la même source.
Les forces de l'ordre turques ont lancé une opération dans la région.
