ANKARA- JaIaI Talabani, the leader of
the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK),
one of the key Kurdish groups in Northern
Iraq, has extended an "olive branch" to
Turkey by complementing Ankara on its
efforts to end the current fighting between
his group and the rival Kurdistan
Democratic Party (KDP) led by Massoud
Barzani. "
Talking to Reuters in Damascus, where
he has been since the fighting in Northern
Iraq began on May 1, and clearly wishing

Fou'ad and Nechirwan Barzani
nephew of the KDP leader, in th~
Turkish border town of Silopi.
