parvenus à un accord, vendredi
soir près de Paris.

Le PDK et l'UPK ont décidé
d'organiser des élections générales
en mai 1995, à l'expiration
du mandat de l'actuel parlement
élu en 1992, et se sont entendus
pour «réorganiser et restructurer
les forces armées (kurdes) dans la
région», ont indiqué les parties
dans un communiqué commun.
Des combats généralisés ont
opposé en mai dernier les deux
formations. Si le calme ~st revenu,
le Kurdistan d'Irak est toujours
divisé de facto et le «gouvernement»
autonome de la

PKK leader calls for a united front against Turkey in the name of Islam

ANKARA-The outlawed Kurdistan Workers'
Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan called for
"holy war" in a taped message he sent to a meeting
held in Berlin to discuss "the Kurdistan problem
and the Islamic solution."
The meeting was organized by the Kurdistan
Islamic Movement, a branch organization'pf the
PKK in Germany. In his recorded speech, OcaIan
said, "The Kemalist ideology is a 'Dadjdajl'
regime," insinuating that modem Turkish ideology
is a betrayal of [slam! and those that support it
are "infidels." He also praised the Muslim community
and called upon the "real believers" to
engage in a joint war, and urged, if not support, at
least ImpartIality.
The terrorist leader identified his banned organization
as an Islamic movement and said the onIv
difference between his movement and that of
Islamic Mujaheddin fi~hters is in how they
describe themselves, that' the core is the'same".
''Today, our struggle resembles the first days of
Islam. At the end of our fight, we could achieve a
situation similar to that of the Prophet
Mohammed and his four Caliphs.
A solution of the Kurdish problem might mean
Kurdistan could become the cradle of international
Islam." He further associated his movement
'with religion by saying, "The Kurdish problem
is an Islamic issue, and we are the closest movement
to Islam. We are determined to support its
spread, and believe its salvation is only possible
through us."
Referring to the victory of the Welfare party in
Southeastern cities, the PKK leader said that victory
was achieved because of the demise of
Kemalist thought. The PKK leaders' taped speech
was applauded by the audience, which was made
up primarily of bearded middle-aged men.
Representatives from the "Kurdistan Alewi
Union," the "Kurdistan Patriotic Intellectuals
Union," and observers from the "European
National View Organization;!' ~ere present at the
meeting, reported Milliyet. 'The Erzurum deputy
of the banned Democracy Party (DEP) Nizamettin
Toguc, and the Kurdish linguist Abdurrahman
Durre, who has been living abroad, also gave
speeches.
