Former deputies Sadak and Yurtt~ will stand trial on luly 16

ANKARA- The Ankara State Security Court
(DGM) has decided to keep the fonner deputies of
the banned pro-Kurdish Democracy Party (DEP) in
custody untIl July 15.
Selim Sadak and Sedat Yurtta~ will come before
the DGM on the following day. Their lawyers predict
that the two will then be fo~mally arrested.
They also think it likely that Sadak and Yurtta~ will
stand trial together WIth their six colleagues who
were arrested previously.
The two deputies have not been permitted to
speak to their lawyers since their detention on July
I. Under the anti-terror law, "people taken into custodyare
not entitled to speak to their lawyers or to
theIr relatives."
The DEP deputies previously detained - Hatip
Dicle, Orhan Dogan, SIrrI Sakrk, Ahmet Türk,
Mahmut Altnak and Leyla Zana - had exception~
ally been pen:nitted to speak totheir lawyers and
had also been allowed receive food from outside.
Normally this is not permitted, police oftïcials
say, because of the danger of deliberate poisoning.
In other words, the regulation is designed for the
protection of detainees. Sadak and Yurtta~ are being
mterrogated in normal rooms, unlike their colleagues
whose statements had been taken in "special"
rooms.
The deputies arrested previously will appear
before the DGM on August 4. They have claImed
that the accusations in chief prosecutor Nusret
Deiniral's 452-page indictment are based on false
evidence and on fictitious confessions of ex-
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members.
The DEP lawyers are requesting that all the cases
. be.heard together, in one court. Since the speeches
which gave rise to the charges were made in various
places, separate cases have been filed, many of
them in DiyarbakIr. But the defense lawyers say
that all the charges are similar and that there should
