Né en 1935 à Belgra<strong>de</strong>, il a réalisé <strong>de</strong> nombreuses expositions personnel<strong>le</strong>s à travers<br />
l’Europe, reçu <strong>de</strong> prestigieux prix pour <strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong>ssin, la peinture et la gravure. Ses œuvres<br />
font partie <strong>de</strong> très nombreuses col<strong>le</strong>ctions publiques et sont représentées dans une cinquantaine<br />
<strong>de</strong> musées en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. Professeur à l’Éco<strong>le</strong> Nationa<strong>le</strong> Supérieure<br />
<strong>de</strong>s Beaux-Arts <strong>de</strong> Paris <strong>de</strong> 1983 à 2001 et membre <strong>de</strong> l’académie <strong>de</strong>s Beaux Arts,<br />
il est aujourd’hui l’un <strong>de</strong>s peintres <strong>de</strong> l’ex-Yougoslavie vivant en France <strong>le</strong>s plus connus.<br />

Vladimir Velickovic répond à toutes ces définitions <strong>de</strong> la peinture philosophique :<br />
peindre <strong>le</strong> réel sans concession tel qu’il est, sans fioritures, loin <strong>de</strong> la décoration,<br />
dans <strong>le</strong> désir <strong>le</strong> plus cynique <strong>de</strong> représenter tel qu’en lui-même l’éternité ne l’atteint<br />
pas ; figurer <strong>le</strong> mon<strong>de</strong>, en proposer une iconographie quintessenciée ; agir dans <strong>le</strong><br />
registre <strong>de</strong> la chose menta<strong>le</strong> ; fabriquer <strong>de</strong>s icônes païennes à même d’exprimer <strong>le</strong><br />
sacré laïque et immanent ; puis peindre un objet spécifique, et ne peindre que lui :<br />
<strong>le</strong> tragique, <strong>le</strong> réel tragique, l’homme tragique, la situation tragique, l’ambiance tragique,<br />
en un mot, peindre la catastrophe sous toutes ses formes. Depuis presque<br />
un <strong>de</strong>mi-sièc<strong>le</strong>, il ne vit et ne travail<strong>le</strong> que pour rapporter <strong>de</strong>s images <strong>de</strong> ce mon<strong>de</strong>.<br />
L’ensemb<strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong> sa production se place sous cette obsession permanente.<br />
Si Bergson a raison <strong>de</strong> dire qu’un philosophe s’évertue sa vie durant à ressasser la<br />
même thèse et à n’offrir au public que d’incessantes et nouvel<strong>le</strong>s variations sur un<br />
même thème, alors il faut extrapo<strong>le</strong>r et penser pareil<strong>le</strong>ment à l’endroit du peintre :<br />
il montre sans relâche <strong>le</strong> même univers, <strong>le</strong>s mêmes affres qui l’affligent, <strong>le</strong>s mêmes<br />
cou<strong>le</strong>urs, la même pa<strong>le</strong>tte, <strong>le</strong>s mêmes objets, <strong>le</strong>s mêmes symbo<strong>le</strong>s. Qu’il se soucie<br />
d’ontologie, <strong>de</strong> physiologie ou <strong>de</strong> métaphysique, Veličković affirme pictura<strong>le</strong>ment<br />
<strong>de</strong> semblab<strong>le</strong>s vérités : <strong>le</strong> solipsisme, la cruauté et la mort.<br />

Biographie<br />
Vladimir Velickovic est né à Belgra<strong>de</strong> (Yougoslavie) en 1935. Diplômé <strong>de</strong> l’éco<strong>le</strong> d’architecture<br />
<strong>de</strong> Belgra<strong>de</strong> en 1960, il expose pour la première fois en 1951.<br />
Sa première exposition personnel<strong>le</strong> a lieu en 1963. Il obtient en 1965 <strong>le</strong> prix <strong>de</strong> la Bienna<strong>le</strong><br />
<strong>de</strong> Paris, vil<strong>le</strong> où il s’instal<strong>le</strong> l’année suivante et où il vit et travail<strong>le</strong> aujourd’hui<br />
encore. Il expose pour la première fois à Paris en 1967 à la ga<strong>le</strong>rie du Dragon.<br />
Nommé en 1983 Professeur à l’Eco<strong>le</strong> Nationa<strong>le</strong> Supérieure <strong>de</strong>s Beaux-Arts <strong>de</strong> Paris,<br />
Vladimir Vélickovic y a enseigné pendant dix-huit années.<br />
Il crée en 2009 <strong>le</strong> « fonds Vladimir Vélickovic pour <strong>le</strong> <strong>de</strong>ssin » qui récompense <strong>le</strong>s<br />
jeunes artistes serbes.<br />
Membre <strong>de</strong> l’Académie Serbe <strong>de</strong>s Sciences et <strong>de</strong>s Arts.<br />
