Les réactions occidenta<strong>les</strong><br />

Dès le 15 juin 1982, Margaret Thatcher annonçait fermement qu’elle ne négocierait pas<br />

avec l’Argentine à propos <strong>des</strong> Falkland.<br />

Elle prononça ce discours devant <strong>les</strong> parlementaires, lorsqu’elle <strong>les</strong> informa de la reddition<br />

totale de l’Argentine.<br />

Elle leur dit qu’elle refusait toute possibilité d’initiative de négociation auprès de l’ONU.<br />

Le représentant de l’opposition, Michael Foot, après l’avoir félicitée, lui demanda si elle<br />

comptait discuter avec l’Argentine :<br />

« Mr. Michael Foot<br />

The Opposition at once wish to join in the thanks and congratulations that the<br />

right hon. <strong>La</strong>dy has given to the Service men and their commanders on the<br />

way in which they have discharged their duties throughout these dangerous<br />

weeks. We wish that to be emphasised at the outset.<br />

The relief that the House felt and expressed last night when it first heard the<br />

news derived partly from the belief that we had been able to avoid not merely<br />

the hideousness of a bloody battle at Port Stanley but also the consequences<br />

of such a battle. That sense of relief was rightly expressed, and we wish to<br />

express it once again.<br />

Even so, as the right hon. <strong>La</strong>dy emphasised in her final remarks, there have<br />

been severe casualties for this country that affect some of our great naval<br />

ports such as Plymouth and Portsmouth. There have been severe casualties<br />

affecting other places as well. In addition, there have been severe casualties<br />
