BU CONSEIL MUNICIPAL. 185 Projet él'arrêtê. LE CONSEIL MUNICIPAL, Sur fa proposition de la Commission chargée de l'exa- » men du projet présenté par le Conseil Administratif, ARRÊTE : ART. 1 er . La construction du pont du. Mont-Blanc, proposée par le Conseil Administratif, est approuvée. ART. 2. La direction de ce pont, ainsi que les raccordements, restent fixés conformément aux plans déposés. Ce pont se dirigera en ligne droite de la rue du Mont-Blanc à l'ancien port du Commerce; el il sera construit sur piles en pierres avec arches en fer. ART. 3 Le Conseil Administratif est chargé d'ouvrir un concours sur les bases indiquées ci-dessus, et, à cet effet, H lui est ouvert un crédit de deux mille francs.
154 MÉMORIAL DES SÉANCES La délibération est ouverte en premier débat sur la convenance ou la disconvenance du nouveau projet d'arrêté. M. Camperio désire faire quelques observations sur le projet d'arrêté prése Jté par la Commission. Il ne reviendra pas sur les discussions qui se sont élevées précédemment sur l'utilité du pont dont la création est actuellement une chose acquise. Il se placera sur le terrain du dernier vote du Conseil Municipal; à ce point de vue on peut'dire que, par les divers amendements qu'il a successivement examinés et rejetés, le Conseil Municipal a tracé au Conseil Administratif un cercle dont il ne pouvait s'écarter. Le pont ne peut avoir, en effet, aucun autre tracé que celui qui est indiqué au projet ; tout autre eût été impossible et irrationnel. Ainsi un pont partant de la rue du Mont-Blanc et aboutissant au cours de Rive n'eût présenté qu'un seul avantage appréciable: celui de satisfaire l'œil en offrant un prolongement direct de la rue du Mont-Blanc; le coupd'œil eût été beau , sans doute; mais les inconvénients eussent été nombreux ; ce pont étant plus long, serait revenu beaucoup plus cher; on aurait été obligé de couper la promenade anglaise; le Grand- Quai , le Molard, la Grenette en auraient peu profité. CPUI abrégeait, il est vrai, la distance entre les Pâquis et les Eaux-Vives et la Terrassière, mais il ne s'agit pas de favoriser ces localités au détriment de la commune de Genève. D'ailleurs pour les habitants des Eaux-Vives le pont étant d'un tiers plus long", le trajet serait à peu près le même. En outre le pont projeté coupant le cours du fleuve perpendiculairement, n'arrêtera pas le courant; i| laissera intacte la vue du lac depuis le nouveau quai de Rive. La construction d'un pont partant de la rue des Alpes, présentait aussi des inconvénients ; il était en effet beaucoup plus long; le quartier de Si Gervais qui représente les 9 dixièmes de la population qui jouira de ce
