Arabic Linguistics

FOREWORD
The present volume contains papers based on presentations given at or
prepared for the Colloquium on Arabic Linguistics, held in Bucharest June 2–4,
2003, organized by the Center for Arab Studies of the University of Bucharest.
Most of the participants in this colloquium also attended our first
Colloquium on Arabic Linguistics, held 10 years before, in September 1994. The
presentations were published in 1995, in the two volumes of Proceedings of the
Colloquium on Arabic Linguistics, part one edited by Nadia Anghelescu and
Andrei A. Avram, part two edited by Nadia Anghelescu and Nicolae Dobrişan,
University of Bucharest, Center for Arab Studies.
We would like to thank our colleagues from abroad for taking part in this
second colloquium as well as for their interest in and appreciation of the
endeavours of Romanian Arabists.
We hope that the present volume is illustrative, among others, of the
richness and the diversity of the research interests in the field of Arabic linguistics
of the members of the Center for Arab Studies of the University of Bucharest.
Since many of them are young, we do hope that it will not take another ten years
before the next colloquium can be held.
