"If we believed such a platform would be
of no use, we would have left. Leaving
would actually make things ~asier for some
circles. But I personally believe that abandoning
this platform will be more dangerous."
Siirt Deputy Naif Güne~ said, on the
other hand, that the state wanted the DEP to
depart from the legal platform and that if
thiS happe~ed, the party would be serving
the state s Interests.
"At this stage we have to be very careful,"
he said.
Adlyaman I?eputy M~mut KIlmç also
sided with the Idea of keepIng the dem~ratic
platform open and warned that I~ ~he
weekend meetIng brought about a declSlon
to boycott Parliament, this would mean the
DEP would not participate in the upcoming
elections either.
Kthnç said he was against resigning from
their parliamentary seats and that alternatives
would be evaluated.
His views were supported by Mu~Deputy
Mehmet Emin Sever, who said they supported
the democratic rights and freedoms
of the Kurdish people and that the only way
to struggle was by using democratic
means. . .
"The most important place IS
Parliament" he said. "I don't believe this
struggle is ~ver. It should continue."
Sever also recalled that the DEP chairman,
Ya~ar Kaya, had been arrested by a
State Security Court and noted that this
could mean imminent closure for the party.
This issue will also be debated at the weekend
meeting, he explained.
DEP ~rrnak deputy Selim Saddak,
strongly opposed the idea of lèaving parliament
and said he was angry at such
"rumours."
Saying they still believed the problems
CQuidbe solved on the democratic glatform,
Saddak.asked, "what could we do. Take a
gun in our hands? Until our last breath we
will use all democratic ways."
Other DEP deputies have "rought similar
arguments although they too are aware that
the final decision will be taken on Sunday
when, not only they, but other representatives
of the DEP grassroots -including radicals-
will also debate the issue.
