médiathèque/library
Kremlin-Bicêtre
chantier
A media library is for a public influenced
by the entertainment industry.
It doesn’t have the rigor of a regular
library. It has an open appearance
and can express a more spectacular
image.
This building must inspire a desire
of discovery, make its users want to
consume knowledge and culture.
It has, however, like any public buil-
ding of this size, a solemn duty. All
the subtlety is to find the balance.
The building consists of two wings
encircling a public square. Its facades
bend slightly toward the sky to lighten
the work and give more scope to
the public space. The ground floor,
fully transparent, is offered to the public
eye but as you look up it becomes
more of a monolith.
The building is clad in thin vertical
strips which become denser with
height.
Painted in vermilion, between the red
Ferrari and orange signs, the skin fits
the building with a recognizable and
memorable color.
The media library seals its identity by
an assertive presence in the city.
