The area of Lake Mfouet and the Foumbain volcano is situated in the Noun plain,
Nkouoptamo sub-division. With a scale of 8 km 2 , it is one of the links in the Cameroon
volcanic line.
Two types of volcanic dynamism are found in our field of study namely, an fissural
effusive dynamism at the origin of basalt in the table land of Noun plain; and a fissural
explosive dynamism which has developed into two different types: (1) firstly, a moderately
explosive dynamism at the origin of Foumbain volcano holomagmatic type. (2) Secondly, an
explosive dynamism at the origin of maar Mfouet well known as holo – hydromagmatic.
The two types of basaltic lava give off by the volcano have “Porphyry microlitic”
texture. Precisely, they are olivine basalts and pyroxene basalts based on an orthogneisic
substratum. The mineralogical composition is made up of olivine, pyroxene, plagioclases and
oxides.
The exploitation of these potentialities can have a great impact to socio – cultural and
economic take off of local inhabitants.
The pedagogic and didactic interest of this work focuses on: “The volcanic risk:
causes, prevision and prevention” in higher schools in Cameroon precisely in 4 ème classes.
Keywords: Noun Plain, maar Mfouet, Foumbain volcano, risks and uncertainties,
exploitable resources.
