the forbidden lesson

The Forbidden Lesson is a poetic exploration of the intimate world
of children and youth and its clash with adult prejudices. A teacher
doesn’t want to teach students a lesson on human reproduction.
Two infants try to imitate adults that sleep together. A girl wants
to know if her vagina has eyes and ears. A school principal
distributes condoms to his students, thinking they are balloons.
A girl and a boy experience their first kiss! This is the ‘shameful
world’ which The Forbidden Lesson attempts to present to children
and adults. The play itself is about the need that young people
have for knowledge and honesty from their parents and teachers.
Knowledge that the older generation is often reluctant, or too afraid
to share. Its message is that there is no big mystery and that a little
communication can go a long way to closing the generation gap.
La leçon interdite explore dans une approche poétique le monde
intime d’enfants et d’adolescents et leurs affrontements avec les
préjugés des adultes. Parmi les situations représentées dans cette
pièce, on trouve un enseignant qui ne veut pas apprendre aux élèves
la leçon sur la reproduction humaine, deux enfants qui essayent
d’imiter les adultes qui couchent ensemble, une jeune fille qui veut
savoir si son vagin a des yeux et des oreilles, un principal d’école
qui distribue des préservatifs aux élèves qui les prennent pour
des ballons, une fille et un garçon qui font l’expérience de leur
premier baiser ! Voilà le « monde honteux » que La leçon interdite
essaie de présenter aux enfants et aux adultes. La pièce décrit
les attentes de connaissance et d’honnêteté de jeunes gens par
rapport à leurs parents et de leurs enseignants, connaissance que la
génération adulte est souvent réticente à partager. Le message de
la pièce annonce qu’il n’y a pas de grand mystère et qu’un peu de
communication fait beaucoup pour rapprocher les générations.
