The action takes place in a lift. A lonely and pregnant thirtysomething
operates the lift. The hostility of the world depresses
her, and so do the problems she cannot escape from. Even the
passengers are indifferent and removed, becoming silent, soulless
dummies. Suddenly the lights go off and the lift stops. When the
lights come up again, the woman is standing in the middle of
three bodies. Terrified at the thought of being found guilty of a
triple murder, she attempts to hide the bodies on the roof. In the
meantime, the murderer (a young man with angelic features)
walks into the lift. The young man, who is as nervy, perplexed and
miserable as the young woman, starts to tell her the story of his life,
which consists mainly of spying on his loud and letchy neighbour.
Three shots fired by him kill the neighbour and two other people
who find themselves in the bullets’ path. An emotional and intense
conversation starts between the two characters. After a while, she
feels herself going into labour... She gives birth. The young man is
the first to touch and hold the newborn. A miracle happens. The
characters calm down and start to understand each other. There is
even a dash of hope for the future. But another, unexpected, sudden
shot is fired. The young man falls to the ground. The woman is left
alone again, with no understanding of the world or of what has just
happened to her.
L’action se passe dans le huis clos d’un ascenseur. Une trentenaire
enceinte et solitaire travaille comme liftière. Elle est déprimée
par l’hostilité du monde et par les problèmes qui l’assaillent
quotidiennement. Même les passagers de l’ascenseur, muets,
indifférents et distants, se sont transformés en poupées sans âme
ni parole. Soudain la lumière s’éteint, l’ascenseur s’arrête, puis
d’un coup la lumière revient et on voit la jeune femme face aux
trois cadavres dont on reconnaît les poupées – les passagers qu’elle
transporte quotidiennement. Le meurtrier – un jeune homme au
visage angélique - fait irruption dans l’ascenseur. Aussi exalté,
perplexe et malheureux que la jeune femme, il commence à narrer
sa vie qui ne consistait qu’à espionner son voisin pique-assiette.
Trois coups de feu tirés fortuitement par lui ont tué sur place le
voisin et deux autres personnes qui par hasard se trouvaient à ses
cotés. Un dialogue acharné s’engage entre les deux personnages.
Au bout d’un moment, elle sent que l’accouchement approche...
L’enfant vient au monde. Le jeune homme est le premier à
toucher et à caresser le nouveau-né. Le miracle s’est produit.
Les personnages se calment et se comprennent. Il y a même un
brin d’espoir en l’avenir. Mais encore un coup de feu inattendu,
occasionnel... Le garçon tombe à terre. La liftière est de nouveau
seule sans comprendre ni accepter le monde et les événements qui
viennent de se produire.
