Three friends come up with a secret hobby: they meet in a hidden reservoir and ‘dance’ in the water. Since university, their paths have diverged. Kajetán has taken the post of a TV presenter and has become a true celebrity. Petr has remained at the university as a lecturer and continued his stubborn struggle against consumerism. However, the two friends are caught off guard by Filip. He decides to stay in the reservoir forever, returning to an existence as a prehistoric water element. Things begin to happen – Petr leaves his wife; Kajetán, influenced by the loss of his friend, causes a brawl at the TV studio. Over the course of a few seconds, certainty has crumbled into dust. Despite all the gags and humorous situations, the play is permeated with the nostalgia of a generation and, in places, even a frosty, surreal quality.

In 1920 Theremin invented a musical instrument called the ‘theremin’, which to this day is the only non-contact musical instrument in the world. Theremin was sent by Lenin on a concert tour around Russia followed by a concert series abroad, organized by the newly formed Soviet Secret Service GRU. It is Theremin’s time in the United States that constitutes the actual plot of the play. After initially meeting great success and enthusiasm in America, grand plans to establish the theremin as a popular musical instrument for the wider public were dashed by the Great Depression. Then Theremin’s personal life began to fall apart. Deportation procedures were brought against him and when he married his music student Lavinia Williams, twenty years his junior and an African American, he was ostracized socially. Abandoned and forgotten, Theremin received news of his father’s death and decided to return to Russia. It was 1938, Stalin’s purges were in full swing... Beyond the dramatization of this journey, Theremin is a portrait of a controversial and a peculiar human being caught in the torrents of 20th century history.
