They lose themselves in a world behind our world. It is a land of conspiracies and apocalypses, sexual neuroses, identity crises and an overload of information. Who am I? Which reality is ‘real’? If the CIA is brainwashing people and cloning is no longer science fiction, what certainties are we left with? Often described as ‘existential horror theatre’, Galapagos looks for humanity inside cruelty, paranoia and taboos. The piece works on different levels: as a theatrical exploration of the counter-culture, as a take on the Oedipus story and as a compassionate account of 21st century people who no longer know who they are or what is true. Galapagos is a filmic tableau of obsessions, horror and fear, which succeeds in moving and amusing its audience at the same time. Descente dans les profondeurs d’un vieil hôtel. Le rez-de-chaussée pue et la nuit, on entend prier à haute voix. Quatre personnages se perdent dans un monde derrière ce monde-ci : un pays de conspiration et d’apocalypse, de névroses sexuelles, de crises d’identité et d’une surcharge d’information. Qui suis-je? Quelle réalité est « réelle » ? Si la CIA pratique le lavage de cerveau et si le clonage n’est plus de la science fiction, que nous reste-t-il de nos certitudes? Souvent décrit comme « théâtre d’horreur existentiel », Galapagos cherche l’humanité derrière la cruauté, la paranoïa et les tabous. Le résultat est un tableau d’obsessions, d’horreur et d’angoisse, oscillant entre émotion et amusement.
