History (please describe the major stages of development of your organisation)<br />
Institute for Terotechnology was created by the decision of the Cabin<strong>et</strong> on 15th March 1986. The Institute<br />
contributed to creation of a platform b<strong>et</strong>ween science and economic practice in the fi eld of maintenance<br />
sciences. The nin<strong>et</strong>ies brought creation of the Institute’s merit profi le and its organisational form. In 2004 the<br />
Institute obtained a status of a National Research Institute (decision of the Cabin<strong>et</strong> on 2 November 2004).<br />
Staff Education and Development Centre is an integral part of the Institute and it develops merit bases for<br />
continuing education and development at all the levels of vocational education. From the beginning of the<br />
nin<strong>et</strong>ies signifi cant building capital investments started, which changed the working conditions and the<br />
Institute’s image. A complex of modern objects was created: the Prototype Departments and Laboratories,<br />
Advanced Technologies Centres, Staff Education and Development Centre, In<strong>formation</strong> Technologies<br />
Centre, buildings of Scientifi c Research Organisation, Publishing and Printing Houses. Modernity of<br />
the technical base and work principles is proved by accreditation certifi cates of the Polish Research and<br />
Certifi cation Centre – in the range of research laboratories and of the German RW TÜV in the area of<br />
prototype-technological and educational activity. The Centre’s modern conception is proved by a wide<br />
extent of its infl uence on the national education. The Centre runs scientifi c-research, development and<br />
implementation work in the fi eld of continuing and vocational education. Educational curricula, elaborated<br />
by the Centre’s employees jointly with other colleagues from co-operating institutions are implemented<br />
directly into vocational education system in Poland.<br />
Main activities<br />
The Centre executes work on theor<strong>et</strong>ical and m<strong>et</strong>hodological bases of building the multi-level continuing<br />
vocational education system – mainly concerning adults. Moreover, it takes part in development of a model<br />
of a continuing education centre and new educational means. It conducts evaluation and comparative<br />
research, carries out research on bases of vocational education theory and m<strong>et</strong>hodology, including: work<br />
contents analysis, comparative studies of educational systems. It develops theor<strong>et</strong>ical bases of modular<br />
education, designs educational standards, vocational qualifi cations, quality systems, curricula for education,<br />
development and training as well as fl exible teaching-learning technologies. On the basis of a theor<strong>et</strong>ical<br />
analysis of vocational education the Centre carries out work concerning optimisation and modernisation<br />
of education, supports scientifi c-m<strong>et</strong>hodical innovations and pedagogical experiments, designs curricular<br />
bases and modular curricula. Its employees have elaborated over 200 curricula specifi cations for basic,<br />
secondary, higher and postgraduate schools and for courses. At training sessions, seminars and conferences<br />
about 6500 managers, engineers, teachers, workers of education and administration have been trained.<br />
The Centre off ers also post diploma studies in the fi eld of in<strong>formation</strong> technologies, education management<br />
and experimental courses for vocational education teachers, technicians and maintenance engineers.<br />
Finally it is the editor of scientifi c – research magazines in the fi eld of vocational education and machine<br />
maintenance (see: publications).<br />
Publications<br />
– The Institute’s Publishing House publishes about one hundred monographs and guidebooks every<br />
year, six all-Polish scientifi c magazines and 2 monographic series in its own Typography. The titles of<br />
scientifi c journals are as follows:<br />
– „Pedagogika Pracy” (Labour Pedagogy), „Edukacja Ustawiczna Dorosłych” (Continuing Adult<br />
Education),<br />
– „Rocznik Pedagogiczny” (Pedagogical Annual), „Studia Pedagogiczne” (Pedagogical Studies),<br />
– „Problemy Eksploatacji” (Maintenance Problems), „Zagadnienia Eksploatacji Maszyn” (Problems of<br />
Machine Maintenance).<br />
