Authors in previous studies noticed a c<strong>on</strong>siderable decrease in Chlorophyceae combined<br />

with an increase in Phaeophyceae as <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> distance from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> town increased (Diannelidis<br />

et al., 1977; Tsekos & Harit<strong>on</strong>idis, 1974. This trend has also been made clear by <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

analysis <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> visual data in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> present study (Fig.3).<br />

Fig. 3 : Dominance <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> main systematic groups for each stati<strong>on</strong>. A c<strong>on</strong>siderable decrease in Chlorophyceae<br />

is obvious as distance from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> town <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Rhodes (Stati<strong>on</strong>s 3 and 4) increases.
