Two-way Anova <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> diversity indices (unit number, Shann<strong>on</strong>-Weaver, Pielou) at speciesand<br />

functi<strong>on</strong>al goup-level showed a similar trend (not shown). Multivariate analysis <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Vassova seaweed at species- and functi<strong>on</strong>al group-level formed <strong>on</strong>e group for site 2 and<br />

two and three groups for site 3, respectively (Fig. 3).<br />

The EEI changed seas<strong>on</strong>ally in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Vassova lago<strong>on</strong> and classified both studied sites in<br />

bad-ESC (Fig. 4). Using <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> EEI <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> studied lago<strong>on</strong>s were classified as: Vassova, Eratino<br />

and Keramoti-low ESC; Agiasma-moderate; Fanari-high.<br />

DISCUSSION<br />

Taxa can be selected as bioindicators when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>y are abundant, functi<strong>on</strong>al important,<br />

sensitive to envir<strong>on</strong>mental changes, easily handled, but more importantly, when <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ir<br />

resp<strong>on</strong>ses to human impact, e.g. changes in abundance, diversity etc, can be reliably<br />

interpreted (Anders<strong>on</strong> 1999). For latter, a c<strong>on</strong>sensus <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> predictive modeling, sound<br />

ecological <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>ory, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> perturbati<strong>on</strong> pattern <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> study area is needed.<br />

<strong>Marine</strong> benthic macrophytes were dominant comp<strong>on</strong>ents <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> studied lago<strong>on</strong>s benthic<br />

vegetati<strong>on</strong>. The angiosperm Ruppia cirrhosa was dominated in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Fanari, an uniform in<br />

shape lago<strong>on</strong> that receives, in comparis<strong>on</strong> to o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r lago<strong>on</strong>s, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> lowest agricultural run-
