This module will review the process of financial communication inside corporations, from operational
reporting to investors and analysts relations. Based on real cases, the course will review the
regulatory framework, the main topics of financial communication (accounting, financial forecasts,
corporate governance, strategy and business model, corporate responsibility…) and the key events in
the life of publicly traded companies (IPO, M&A, profit warning…).
The main aim of this module is to raise students’ awareness of how going public not only impacts
day‐to‐day activity of corporate financial teams, but also raises specific strategic issues.

tangibles.
The question of the difficulties faced in putting values on these intangibles will be the cornerstone of
the delivery of the elective.
4

Brands, intellectual capital, information on databases, efficient processes, product innovation,
customer loyalty and societal and political approval.
• Aptitudes comportementales / Behavioral skills
Autre (expliquer) / Other (explain) :
increasingly important as companies in all parts of the world step up their efforts to supply and service markets outside their national
boundaries. This elective is entirely dedicated to address this issue: How to do to manage an export project? Its overall objective is to
enable students to apply the methodology which allows handling export operations, from the selection of the fitted offer for the target
markets, up to the market entry solutions and the control and the follow up of the export sales. Starting from real projects, students will be
invited to study an export opportunity and will have to propose a commercial plan in using “the step by step method” learnt in this elective,
including a diagnosis and some commercial recommendations concerning export costs analysis, export price, incoterms, distribution, legal
regulations, etc. This method is illustrated by numerous case studies in order to be capable to carry out an export project in a situation as
close as it is possible to that of an export manager. This semester-two elective will deepen the technical part of the control and the follow up
of the export sales.
Knowledge and Understanding (subject specific)
Doing Business in Europe
Travail individuel et/ou de groupe /
Personal &/or Team Work
Evaluation / Evaluation
As a result of the establishment of the Single European Market (SEM) and its recent enlargements, Europe
at the beginning of the 21 st century is the largest single trading bloc in the world with a population of more
than 540 million people, making it a powerful competitive force in global economic and business terms. It is
the result of a unique approach to regional integration, culminating the in the creation of the SEM, which has
greatly enhanced market opportunities for European and non-European businesses alike.
In this course, students will examine some of the very practical aspects of “doing business in Europe”. By taking a
closer look at the various economic and social models prevalent throughout the continent, the course examines
national and regional preferences for business organisation and structure, the assumptions and rationale for
business development and growth in different parts of Europe, and key elements companies must take into
account to develop effective cross-border trade, e.g., industrial relations, professional skills, the role of the
European consumer, and cross-cultural challenges both in terms of business organisation and interpersonal
dynamics. The class will use case studies from a number of European businesses and countries, as well as
discussions with business players. Students develop an ability to see complex issues from various perspectives in
order to develop workable solutions to overcome structural, cultural and other business challenges.
The course analyses opportunities for both European and non-European corporate interests.
Knowledge and Understanding (subject specific)
By the end of this course, the student is expected to :
- Understand the potential business opportunities and challenges of operating in a single European
market
- Recognise the importance of economic integration from a business perspective
- Understand the interplay of national, regional and global business interests in a European business
context,
- Be able to begin developing strategies for market entry/expansion—both for EU and third-country
businesses
-
Cognitive/Intellectual skills (generic)
By the end of this course, the student is expected to :
- Be able to apply theoretical concepts to hands-on business realities
- Be able to critically analyse case studies from a variety of angles
- Apply critical thinking skills and intellectual adaptability to develop sound business strategies
- Be sensitive to the cultural implications arising from the need to operate at a regional level
Corporate social responsibility has become a major concern of multinational corporations operating
throughout the world. Their commitment to ethical, social and governance issues (ESG) is under the scrutiny
of the firm's various stakeholders, such as governments, consumer associations, NGOs and communities.
Stakeholders consider organizations as accountable and exert pressure to obtain adequate responses to their
expectations and claims.
Moreover, the environmental crisis - climate change and resources scarcity - urges companies to decouple
the generation of richness from the use of resources and energy. Eco-efficiency, circular flows of resources
and shifting from products to sustainable service system will be presented and discussed as innovative way of
decoupling.
Finally, the social dimension of sustainable development calls from new business models accessible for
disadvantaged people so that they could solve their basics/development needs.
Evaluation / Evaluation
MARCOM, or Marketing Communication, refers to the set of messages and related media & strategies used to
communicate with a consumer target audience and prospects within a given marketplace. It examines the tools
and techniques of communications used to take to market products, ideas, or services. It is the promotional
component of the Marketing Mix (or 4P’s: Product, Price, Place & Promotion) as a part of a company’s overall
effort to reach out to consumers and general public about its products and/or services.
Marketing Communication describes a specific mix of advertising, branding, direct marketing, graphic design,
marketing, packaging, promotion, publicity, sponsorship, public relations, sales promotion and online
marketing.
Objectives:
This course will focus on analysing, designing, selecting, and evaluating MarCom strategies and planning at
stake for all organisations. Students will explore the "language" and “lingo” embedded in marketing
communication campaigns, the fragmentation and enhancement of media channels, the growing trends and
lifestyles of target audiences in the European Union business environment.
Students will gain a basic knowledge of MarCom tools while taking a more region-specific approach: press
types, taboos in ads as well as ‘ethical segmentation’. They will be able to analyse and examine the distinctive
features of communication strategies of: PR, events, expos and trade shows, advertising, direct marketing, Emarketing,
etc.
Knowledge and Understanding
a) Appreciate the issues surrounding B2B and B2C marketing communications in internal and external
environments and the message use impact.
b) Comprehend a range of theoretical marketing communications models and frameworks and understand how
they can be used to underpin the development of B2B and B2C marketing communications strategy.
c) Appreciate the variety of communications tools and media available to understand and inform on B2B and
B2C campaign planning.
d) Acquire a critical appreciation of B2B and B2C MarCom campaigns.
e) Become acquainted to the skills and strategic appreciation necessary to develop an integrated marketing
communications plan and promotional budgeting in a timely way.
f) Understanding the European Union and its business environment, topics include EU integration and
business practices in a changing environment of a multicultural marketplace.
g) Learn why it is critical to understand the laws governing MarCom to avoid costly legal mistakes.
In addition, the course addresses key challenges related to current developments in the communication
strategies in the European limelight of new trends and innovations, which lead the market.
The course will provide a balance of theory and application, with short case studies and group projects (or
small team works) run throughout the course.
Students will be introduced to a range of practical examples of European companies from different business
sectors allowing student to gain deeper insights of MarCom strategies practiced in the European Union.

Like a flight simulator, a Business Simulation is a learning by doing tool that allows an active training process. It simulates competition in the
real world, simplifies it, amplifies it and speeds it up. These business game sessions energise the competitive spirit and bring to life
business concepts, principles and ways of thinking. In the simulation, one acts as in a real-life business, taking into account local
characteristics & features applied to a given industry in US (Raleigh), Asian (Suzhou) & European (Lille & Sophia) contexts, such as
evaluating market opportunities, developing plans, raising money, etc.
Simulations are a fun way to learn about business based on a learning-by-doing method. This business simulation in partnership with Be
Soft (Business Education Software) will enable students to:
- View management as a sport played by a TEAM
- Develop group dynamics: Group Work, Building Partnerships with other Teams, Negotiating Resources with Administrator
- Analysis of relevant facts, thus learning how to globalise the company and expand frontiers: Exporting, Delocalising, Co-operating
vs. Competing
- Understand & build their own model for their company or activity within the company
- Learn to operate under the scrutiny of financial markets in order to create value and provide profitable growth: Excellence in dayto-day
operation, exploring new markets
- Develop skills in short- term and long term decision making
- A full internet game played with “Be Soft” software
Teams will manage firms competing in the same industry… but on different continents:
• Europe
• Asia
• Americas
…and with very different chararacteristics
Each company has the following characteristics:
– Domestic at first but with a strong incentive to expand abroad
– Produces an electronic device
– Makes decisions in areas such as :
– Marketing
– Export
– Joint Ventures
– Finance
– Contracts.
Participants proceed by trial and error, not by applying management recipes
– Initially, each company has a different situation,
– accumulates positive and negative outcomes throughout, to
– produce very different situations at the end
This is a full internet game where time constraints are imposed for decision making.
increasingly important as companies in all parts of the world step up their efforts to supply and service markets outside their national
boundaries. This elective is entirely dedicated to address this issue: How to do to manage an export project? Its overall objective is to
enable students to apply the methodology which allows handling export operations, from the selection of the fitted offer for the target
markets, up to the market entry solutions and the control and the follow up of the export sales. Starting from real projects, students will be
invited to study an export opportunity and will have to propose a commercial plan in using “the step by step method” learnt in this elective,
including a diagnosis and some commercial recommendations concerning export costs analysis, export price, incoterms, distribution, legal
regulations…... This method is illustrated by numerous case studies in order to be capable to carry out an export project in a situation as
close as it is possible to that of an export manager. This semester-two elective will deepen the technical part of the control and the follow up
of the export sales.
