• Empty the drip tray (9b) and reinsert it. The system will heat up briefly. The display<br />

shows PLEASE RINSE and the service button (2) blinks.<br />

• Press the service button (2) and the system will be rinsed through the coffee outlet (8).<br />

• Your coffee machine is ready for operation again.<br />

Manual decalcifying<br />

If you want, you may start the decalcifying program without a prior alarm showing:<br />

• Press the programming button P in order to start program mode.<br />

• Press the > button until the display shows select DEscaling.<br />

• Press the ok button. The display shows Manual descaling.<br />

• Press the ok button. The display shows EMPTY trays.<br />

• Continue as above for «Empty the drip tray (9b)...».<br />

☛ If you start the <strong>manual</strong> decalcifying program by accident, you may interrupt it<br />

by pressing the power switch (7) for a few seconds.<br />

5.5 General cleaning<br />

☛ Never immerse the coffee machine in water.<br />

☛ Never use a scrubbing cleaner to clean the coffee machine.<br />

• Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the inside and outside of the case.<br />

• Empty the drip tray (9b) and the grounds holder (9c) only when the display indicates<br />

this. From time to time, use soapy water for cleaning.<br />

☛ When cleaning the drip tray (9b), make sure that the two contacts (9d) at the<br />

back of the tray are always clean.<br />

• The water tank should be rinsed out daily and filled with fresh, cool water.<br />

• Clean the hot water/steam jet with a moist cloth or flush it out with fresh, cold water<br />

until it is completely clean (see also cleaning note under point 3.8)<br />

Cleaning the central unit<br />

Where required the central unit can be taken out and cleaned under running water. For<br />

this use no cleaning agent, only water!<br />

☛ We recommend you to clean the central unit once a month.<br />

Caution: The appliance must be switched off for cleaning!<br />

• Remove the right hand cover (13) by unscrewing both screws (e.g. with a coin).<br />

• Disengage the central unit (24) by pressing the red switch lever and turning the<br />

handle to the left as far as the stop.<br />

• Withdraw the central unit carefully from the housing by the handle.<br />

• Clean the central unit under running water. Thoroughly rinse out the milling works<br />

and the mesh screen. Afterwards allow the central unit to dry out.<br />

• Push the central unit carefully back into the housing and engage it by pressing the<br />

red switch lever and turning the handle to the right as far as the stop.<br />

• Replace the cover and screw the screws back in.<br />
