PORRENTRUY
Promue au rang de ville au 13 e siècle par Rodolphe de Hasbourg, Porrentruy devient la résidence
des princes-évêques de Bâle. L’un d’eux, Jacques-Christophe Blarer de Wartensee
(1575-1608), appelé le Restaurateur de l’évêché reconstruisit le château détruit par
un incendie, fonda un collège bien vite renommé, devenu aujourd’hui, Lycée cantonal. Ce
prince-évêque ainsi que ses successeurs incita les familles nobles à construire en ville de
Porrentruy. La capitale vit ainsi s’ériger de nombreuses maisons aristocratiques. Au 18 e siècle
la ville s’embellit de remarquables édifices, tels l’Hôtel de Ville, l’Hôtel des Halles, l’Hôtel-Dieu
et l’Hôtel de Gléresse.
Porrentruy erhielt im 13. Jahrhundert von Rudolf von Habsburg das Stadtrecht. Anfangs 16.
Jahrhundert wird die Stadt Residenz des Fürstbischofs von Basel. Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts
baut Bischof Jacob Christoph Blarer von Wartensee das durch eine Feuersbrunst beschädigte
Schloss wieder auf und gründet eine bald weitbekannte Jesuitenschule, in deren Gebäude
sich heute das Kantons-gymnasium, das Lycée cantonal, befindet. Unter der Herrschaft jenes
Fürstbischofs und seiner Nach-folger werden von reichen Familien stattliche Gebäude in Porrentruy
errichtet. Im 18. Jahrhundert werden bemerkenswerte Gebäude wie das Rathaus, das
Hôtel des Halles, das Hôtel-Dieu und das Hôtel de Gléresse gebaut.
Porrentruy was granted a city charter by Rudolf von Habsburg in the thirteenth century. From
then on, the city served as the summer residence and from the beginning of the six-teenth
century as the permanent residence of the prince-bishop of Basel. At the end of the sixteenth
century, Bishop Jacob Cristoph Blarer von Wartensee rebuilt the palace which had been
damaged in a fire and established a highly-respected Jesuit school. Today, these buildings
house the canton’s college, the Lycée cantonal. This prince-bishop and his followers were instrumental
in convincing rich families to erect fine buildings in Porrentruy. Noteworthy buildings
such as the Hôtel de ville, the Hôtel des Halles, the Hôtel-Dieu and the Gléresse Mansion were
also constructed in the eighteenth century.
