The Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) is a £39.4m UKAid-funded programme

managed by Palladium International in partnership with KPMG, Newcastle University,

Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) at Loughborough University and the

Institute of Development Studies (IDS). Working in collaboration with Tanzania’s Commission

for Science and Technology (COSTECH), HDIF seeks to accelerate the testing and scaling of

innovations in health, education, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in Tanzania. To catalyse

the development of new models of service delivery, the use of new technologies, involvement

of new providers and establishment of new partnerships, HDIF implements:

• strategies and interventions to strengthen Tanzania’s innovation ecosystem

• grant mechanisms to effectively and efficiently identify, select, and support projects

through the innovation fund; and

• activities to strengthen the innovation evidence base in Tanzania and translate findings and

lessons learned into policy and practice.

The Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) is the government partner to

HDIF and a key strategic partner for the project. HDIF and COSTECH work together to realise a

shared goal: to accelerate innovation and effective use of technology to increase and improve

opportunities for health, education and WASH in Tanzania. Further details can be obtained at

www.costech.or.tz.
