Risk factors for triatomines in Venezuela and Colombia<br />

Previous studies have already <strong>de</strong>monstrated the importance of a range of housing<br />

characteristics on the prevalence of triatomine infestation in and around houses.<br />

Risk factors for triatomine infestation are likely to be species specific and even area<br />

specific (especially for species with a wi<strong>de</strong> geographical distribution area).<br />

Previously published risk factor studies for infestation with triatomines have been<br />

carried out in Argentina for Triatoma infestans [1, 2], Brazil for Rhodnius megistus,<br />

T.infestans, Triatoma sordida, Triatoma brasiliensis and Triatoma pseudomaculata<br />

[3-7]. In Costa Rica for infestation by Triatoma dimidiata [8, 9] and Mexico for<br />

Triatoma pallidipennis infestation [10-12]. Risk factor analysis allow the<br />

i<strong>de</strong>ntification of areas to target control strategies for the control of domiciliary<br />
