DAS WINDHUND FESTIVAL DONAUESCHINGEN AUS SICHT DER ZUCHTRICHTER...
CHART POLSKI The Polish Greyhound is a dog
of great size, powerful, muscular, definitely
stronger and less fine in shape than the other
short-haired sighthounds: Three were entered
one was absent. BOB was D'Benita-Zaba Niwika
Sibin. A feminine champion bitch well
balance and well angulated presenting herself
well in the ring.
Now it was time for 7 Galgo Espanols one was
missing. My BOB was San Augustin del Guadalix
Cielo a beautiful and masculine male who
came from the champion class. What I look for
in the breed is the extremely long tail and the
long upper arm - two breed specific details,
which are not to be missed.
MAGYAR AGAR. 7 participants were entered.
The breed gives the impression of strength;
bone structure and musculature very strongly
developed. The breed has to be elegant, and so
he was, my BOB; Illa- Brerek Adu Asz - a strong
and masculine male entered in open class with
a strong but elegant head with rose shaped
ears and moved with a long step.
Now to my second day
– Sunday
First, I had 17 Azawakhs in the ring. It was a
pleasure to notice that most of the dogs had
nice temperaments. For a few, it was not possible
to see the bite or possible for the owner to
show me the bite either.
After the show, there was a debate on Facebook
- if it was necessary for a judge to touch
the dog - and I can only say: Yes it is to me. I
know the breed can be reserved and I accept
that the owner show me the bite, but when it
does not succeed for neither the judge or the
owner and when the dogs are scared witless,
it is too much for me and I feel sorry for the
dog, who has not decided to be shown but it is
forced into the ring.
My BOB came from champion class: Swala’s
Shamarani. She was feminine with a nice character.
She had a lot of breed specific details,
slim and elegant - white socks on all four feet,
tip of tail and a nice short and glossy coat. She
moved elegant smooth in high action.
My winner was THE AFGHAN HOUND: Xenos
Dralion, bred and handled by Roberto Bongiovanni,
owned by Marika Bramini in Italy.
I’ve found that this Afghan has all the breed
specific details, you could ask for. When I judge
Sighthounds, I feel it is important to remember
their original purpose and the attributes,
which have helped them, carry out their job.
Carriage and effortless movements is vital in
these breeds.
I say thank you for a great event and weekend
- a special thank you to Julie Huebner. She
looked after all the judges with great diligence
and ensured that we were comfortable. Thank
you to the show team and Olaf Knauber, which
has caused this festival – the Sighthound Festival
Donaueschingen - to be completed.
Finally the ITALIAN GREYHOUNDS with the
biggest entry I have ever judged.
80 Italian Greyhounds were entered. The Italian
greyhound has a special place in my heart I
have always loved that little sighthound with
the great personality. It was a fantastic experience
to judge so many high quality Italian
Greyhounds feeling the fine and tight skin on
all parts of the body of so many outstanding
specimens looking at high typical head with
the desired Italian Greyhounds expression.
Watch the springy, harmonious, slightly raised
trot, covering the ground.
My BOB was the best Italian Greyhounds I have
ever seen: Redcomet Rock and Roll. He was
only 15 months but I think he has everything
and the most beautiful movements. This means
that the front legs was moved forward
with good reach and with slightly lifted and
bent pasterns - like a woman asking a gentleman
to kiss her hand.
That was the end of a very lovely day with lots
of atmosphere.
Then following the IRISH WOLFHOUNDS,
that is a classic combination of substance and
graceful curves. There were 29 entered a few
were missing. I found that the general quality
was high. My BOB was Ocool Odyssea of Fitst
Avenue. Only two years and coming from open
class. She was well balanced, had a lot of substance,
strong bone structure. Easy movements
with a long step.
Now time for 15 SLOUGHIS. A very racy and
elegant breed. Noble and haughty. My winner
came from intermediate class Jadida Labibah
Sabiih al Sahra. A 19 months elegant, feminine
birch. Very fine skin, close fitting to the
body and nice short, dense coat. She moved
smooth and with long strides, covering plenty
of ground and had a nice temperament.
Finally time for one of the national breeds
– not yet approved by the FCI. THE SILKEN
WINDSPRITE a small to medium size, athletic
long-range and light-footed Sighthound. BOB
was Gold (Löw-Tragmann) a masculine and
nice male from open class. With a nice soft coat
with feathering.
