The heat-shrinkablesleeves are extremely versatile,and accommodate a wide range ofcable diameters. Five basic kits coverall cable sizes, permitting reducedinventories and an efficient stockingpolicy. The light weight of the componentsand limited volume of the kitsfacilitate safe and easy transportationand handling. Allcomponents are included in a singlebox. The set of pre-engineeredcomponents requires no specialor expensive tools for installation.Installation involves a simple setof standard procedures with nosoldering re quired. Neither doesthe termination require filling withoil or compound. Risk of leakage isavoided, and filling and topping-uptime on the job site is saved.High-performance materialRaychem terminations are made ofa specially formulated material withexcellent tracking and erosionresistance characteristics.Accelerated and natural weatheringtests which are constantly beingcarried out at our facilities andindependent test sites aroundthe world have demonstrated thatthe terminations are UV and waterresistant and perform reliably evenwhen exposed to sudden temperaturevariations. A Tracking and ErosionTest as per ASTM D2303 showed notracking. IEC 112 was also conductedwith no erosion or tracking observed.Electrical stress controlScreened or shielded power cablesrequire electrical stress control inorder to reduce the electrical stressesat the end of the screen and at thetermination surface to avoid partialdischarge and surface corona underall service conditions. Corona orelectrical discharge can ultimatelydestroy the cable insulation, causingpremature failure.Raychem's stress control sleeves haveelectrical properties that smooth outthe electrical field at the end of thecable. This is achieved by the uniqueresistive and capacitive properties ofthe heat-shrinkable materials.
