“Me lastimé
Education allows ECC student to help community
Laureano Escobar is a first-generation college student whose parents were
immigrants from central Mexico. They came to the U.S. at a young age and thanks
to their sacrifices, Escobar discovered what he truly wanted to do with his life.
“I came across physical therapy by chance,” Escobar said. “I injured my shoulder in
high school during martial arts practice and thought I would need surgery.” Escobar
was able to rehab his shoulder to a full recovery. “I enjoyed the problem-solving
aspect of the profession and that each stage of treatment was like a jigsaw puzzle
that I looked forward to solving.”
The profession lends itself well to Escobar’s goal to serve his community and help
those in need. “In the Latino community, there is a lot of medical illiteracy, and
much of the information is lost in translation,” Escobar said. He hopes to travel and
provide high-quality therapy and education to those in his care.
